"short ram" custom...

So, with so much food on my plate, I decided the first mod I will be doing is the removal of my resonator. The problem is I have no fender covers above my tire... nor do I wish to have a CAI. So I cannot simply connect a filter to the pipe above the tire, nor lead a pipe down away from the exposed area. Don't want CAI due to versatility and robustness loss, too many parts and I drive in the rain/puddles a lot.

I guess my idea would consist of removing both the resonator AND air-filter box... and put a cone-filter+heat shield on the end of the MAF sensor. Is this filter supposed to be 3" or 2.5"?

I am a thrifty/frugal/cheap guy that likes to buy into concepts, not so much brand-names. That is why I'm not dropping the $100-$180 for those short RAMs on ebay. Instead, I'm running with the piping already in my car.

Any suggestions for me whilst doing this? I decided to start with this mod because I have to remove my bumper for other purposes anyway and I prefer to do all the labour at once--bumper removal being part of removing the resonator, fixing my bumper which some b* backed into me and broke a screw, and replacing my turnsignals back to amber (don't like the white too much).

creative mind - check ;D
3" pvc elbow... so I presume the end sticking out from the MAF is smaller and the PVC pipe will fit over it? As for the elbow, 45 or 90 degrees? Angled downwards towards that hole leading to where the resonator was, no doubt?
Couplings... do you mean those ring-clamps? One for the MAF-PVC and one for PVC-filter/heatshield?

you have the idea, they sell these 3" metal couplings at home depot with rubber and a divider in the middle. i used them and cut the rivets out of the metal sleeve and just used the rubber.

the elbow should be 90, you can position it next to those 2 openings in the frame (2.5 TL)

the throttle body isn't 3'', its more like 2 1/2''. i wasn't able to find anything local that was that diameter, thats the only reason i used 3''. it works great though, not one problem. oh and i drilled a hole and epoxied a metal fitting to run the breather from the crankcase.

As for the 90 degree, I am assuming I use the gradual curve, not the sharp bend?

I was under the impression the pipe might've been 2.5", is this a snug fit within the PVC or am I mounting it via whatever means like epoxy?... For the drilling of the hole for the breather... you have a photo for me? Not sure the optimal/appropriate place for that hole, nor the size.

I'm more of a visual learner, you show me something I can mimic it perfectly. Everything I've been able to visualise in my head thus far, but this sounds like it requires a bit more precision [the placement of the hole]

all i have is 90 degree elbow from pepboys with K&N filter...40 bucks ftw.I also have a cold air intake but i only use in summer
( slammed tl + intake in the bumper+ rainy day in MA =FUN WITH MASS AIRFLOW SENSOR AND A HAIR DRYER IN THE BATHROOM)
So ye rundown goes like this:
ram air:connectors+ 90 degree elbow+ filter
cold air: connectors+90 degrees elbow + ram air pipe of a 92-98 civic+ filter

You run with the same idea as drilling a hole afore mentioned? Would love some photos... I'm very visual... although your description is pretty thorough.

I'd rather go for the Secret Weapon.

http://www.autoaccessorystore.com/ho...zard=&s=&mid=#

Then use the coupon code to get $20 off. The only thing is that the Weapon R "filter cleaner" is actually diluted Simple Green, and the filter oil looked to be motor oil. After I drove over my filter, it was replaced with a K&N one.

The only difference is the filter?

The filter adds $80 more?

The pipe is different also. There's an inner pipe which they claim causes lower pressure in the inner pipe, which in turn causes air to be forced in. Honestly, not with that exact design, but the velocity stack in the filter helps a lot. My filter for my car was about $80-$90 for just the filter. Big K&N FTW.
