nah, i wouldn't do that.

you're better off just gettting a brush and just scrubing it with some detergent. that's what i do...

Just a suggestion...

If you do get them cleaned, buy the OEM "clear plastic" floor mats and place them on top of the carpet floor mats. It's much easier to clean the "clear plastic" floor mats with detergent and a stiff brush and your carpet floor mats will not get dirty. You can get universal clear plastic mats from auto parts stores and trim them to fit as well. I prefer OEM for that perfect fit. When I traded in my 97 Accord for the TL in January, the carpet floor mats in the Accord looked brand new.

ignore what everyone says and do it... i was discouraged by everyone one here to do it, but it cleaned my floormats better than sitting there and scrubbing around the dirt with a brush... the only thing you should watch for is the mat sticking up and hitting anything while it spins around... make sure it is completely submersed in the machine.... works like a charm

I started scrubbing the first mat but, I i thought it was too time consuming and ineffective. I therefore decided to use the washing machine. I'm happy I did! It worked perfectly!!

Do you also have the clear plastic covers over your couch?

there are lots of cleaning products available at supermarkets and parts stores for your floor mats, just be very careful in choosing what to use.

Do what I do...take it to a car shop and use the high-pressure steam cleaner. It'll clean the S&%T out of it...plus you can get the deeply rooted junk out too. Be careful though, if your mats are kinda old and tattered, they may disintegrate along with the dirties.

I brought mine to the local laundrymat last winter and used some regular detergent and added some Oxyclean. They came out looking brand new. Just be sure not to put them in the dryer!

heh, so i took mine out of the bucket of oxyclean today and sprayed them with some water. I threw them into the washing machine and spun it for a bit. The water came out brown still, so I resprayed it a few times then kept spinning and spraying. They're still not perfect, but the washing machine seems to be spitting out cleaner water now. I swear thats the nastiest floor mat ive seen in my life.

Wait 'til you see mine, hehe. Someone stole one of my rear ones so the actual CARPET is filthy, too. Desired, we should meet up one day. You've spotted me in the past, but I've never spotted you. As it says under my user name, you can see my car and I at SB Friday and Saturday nights. The one in DC near Big 5.

~Cheers~

I happen to have three sets of carpet mats (taupe color) that I basically rotate every several months. I do a really thorough steam clean on them and then protect them with clear plastic mat covers - www.lloydsmats.com - between rotations.

Yeah, this sounds really anal but you must admit, Acura no longer makes factory mats for our first gen cars, so we do what we gota do.

or you can just use one set and keep 2 sets sitting in your house and sell them for a lot in a few years.

update on my mats.... I left them outside in my backyard to dry, it started rainging before I could get home, so the mat is still damp. I touched it and it felt kind of sticky. ugh
