Looked for a possible answer to this. Have a 96 2.5 with 191,000 miles on her. Always Prem. gas used. Breezes through Ca. smog checks.
Cleaned the Throttle body butterfly with TB cleaner and PCV valve. Checked plug gap and cleaned plugs. replaced air filter. Started engine, a bit of white smoke came out and cleared after about 10 seconds. (the car has never smokes figured it's because of the cleaner used in the TB). Drove for a little bit and now, for the first time ever, the engine light is on with PO171 code logged.
Is it possible that some of the TB fliud contaminated an O2 sensor causing it to fail?

If the car doesn't sound like it's running differently or anything, the first step is to clear the code and see if it comes back. The O2 sensor is just doing its job. If you clear it and the code doesn't come back within 100 miles or so, it could be from the fluid and it's probably working fine. Just because you throw an O2 code doesn't mean the O2 sensor isn't working.

I did clear the code. Went ahead and replaced the plugs. Started looking around where I was working on it yesterday for vac hoses of etc and found the intake hose from the air box had a big split/hole in it right at the bend @ TB. Temp sealed till i can locate another. Drove it 30 miles to work. Eng. light remains off. We'll see.
