Unhappy noisy valves

I posted a question about a cranking noise in the engine but what I really mean is that I hear the valves in the engine knocking its not loud but I can hear them and its only when I drive slow between 1000 and 2000 rpm, does anyone experiencing the same problem in their 96 or 97 TL because I wanted to find out if this is normal . I also hear it when I start the car . Does anybody know if I would change the oil from 5w30 what I currently use to 10w30 will that quiet it down a little?
