New TL owner, couple questions about tinting

Hi there, I'm buying my parents '96 3.2TL, it's in great condition and I've been wanting to get my hands on this thing close to a decade now.

The first thing I'm looking to do is get a better security system and tint the 5 windows. The car is dark green and I'd like to know what everyone recommends for color and % tint on the 4 side windows and the back? I don't want this thing to look too pimped out, just stylish.

The other thing i'm wondering is the driver window does have scratches that I noticed others have discussed here. Do I need to get this repaired before I get the tint, or is there a way around it?

Any suggestions will be appreciated!

You might need to get the problem fixed with the scratching, cuz if you don't, your tint will be scratched too.

That's what I was thinking. I was pretty sure tint got put on the inside. The scratches are on the outside from contamination getting into the pads that help hold it in place.

Check around the photo gallery, you might get some ideas in there. I would help you out, but tint on passanger cars is illegal in my state I'm trying to find out a way around it though, my vision is fine, and I doubt I could get it for the UV protection.

I do agree though, I've always thought the car needed some tint. Nothing amazingly dark and gangster, but not something wicked light, maybe like 20%?

mine is, i think 20% and it's pretty decent looking. it looks great from a distance. my car isn't green tho, it's black. the tint goes on the inside of the window, but mine is also scratched on the inside. now, i bought it this way, so i suppose these could have come from something else, but none of the others are scratched. i'm guessing the window mech did it. anyways, i'd say 20% black is a good medium. i plan on having mine all redone (it's pretty ghetto in some spots...good thing they aren't noticable) 5%.

thanks for the info. I've booked an appointment to get them done tomorrow. I'll let them know about the scratches and see what they recommend.

Yeah tint is on the inside. I have 15% tint on my TL, which is VERY dark, but it looks good. On the westcoast, 35% is the normal legal tint percentage u can have.

What brand of film are you getting? Navi or Non? You didn't mention color of interior? Most folks get 15% to 35% and they'll usually go darker on the rear than on the sides. This basically comes down to a personal choice. If your interior is dark, you can possibly go with 20 rear/35 around. and it will look good. IMHO.

Here's a link with 50% tint https://acurazine.com/forums/ramblings-12/mr-fed-raricrasher-rov-signs-108846/ and there's another link in that post that shows 20%.

I had 20% all the way around on my '98 Integra (which was the dark green ,mystic green pearl I think it was called), looked WICKED. This one will finally be getting tinted this spring, I am doing 20% all the way around again. 35% is the darkest you can legally go for the front two windows, but I'm still gonna do the 20% all around, look sbetter. plus, w the moonroof, it helps make it look not so dark to the cops.

I dropped off the car and I decided to try 35% all around. It was a big debate between 20, 35 or 35 with a 20 rear window. Basically I don't want it to stand out that I've tinted the windows, just subtle. So that's why the 35 choice. We'll see in a few hours!

I picked up the car today. It looks perfect. 35% was the way to go! I may get one window redone since it has some small bubbles other than that they did a good job. Front windows are illegal here in vancouver so we'll see how long I get to drive this before I get in crap with the cops. Thanks for the advice, I'll post some pics soon.

I just got my windows tinted today! 35% Solar Gard Quantum on all the windows except the windshield. The top rear window will need to get sprayed black cuz they couldn't tint the top portion.
