I agree with some of what you say here... I have a 1998 3.2 TL that currently has 293k miles on it. Bought it when it had 43k miles on it. Have had 3 starters replaced at total approx cost $2100 or so. Had tranny replaced at 150k miles at approx cost $3300. Had 3 O2 sensors & 1 wheel speed sensor replaced at approx $180 each. Slow driver side window is an aggravation. This will probably be my last Acura product. But I have put a lotta miles on it... Will probably go with something Toyota or Lexus badged for my next car, as the Toyotas I have driven have been pretty much trouble free.

I dunno, at 293k and still going, I wouldn't complain much. And I'm sure if you did the work yourself and found parts from wrecked cars the cost would have been a lot less. My clutch for my old car was $200, but it was 4 times that to pay someone to replace it.

I've only had my car for about 4k miles, and I've fixed everything I found wrong with it. I lubed the windows, replaced the speakers, replaced some light bulbs, and that was about it.

Wow I must be lucky. 240k miles now, 90k miles when I bought it in 2003. Replaced 1 alternator, replaced 1 starter, original tranny, passenger side window can only be controlled from drivers side now, replaced radiator once, ABS not working(due to accident in 2004 and never botherd to fix it), replaced spark plugs, check engine light goes off and on intermittingly since 2005(after timing belt was replaced, code has something to do with cylinder not firing up lol), rear suspension is lowerd on its own lol(since 2005/06), rear brake pads wear unven due to bad caliper(since 2007), power steering fluid leaks slowly so I just refill it every few months. Got rust all over the back wheel fender and along the doors. The only thing I really do is change oil every 7k to 9k km, current timing belt is at 180k KM, drained the tranny fluid once(over 150k KM ago), never had a brake flush or anything else done. Used to drive this car pretty hard, not as much anymore. Car/engine still drives amazingly smooth and gas consumption is almost the same as when I first got it. This car would probably hit 500k KM easily if I had kept the other maintenace up to par...but very happy with the mileage I got out of it since 2003(almost 250k KM/150k miles).

It is a 1998 3.2 TL. Ya I am surprised its going this strong... reason with the slack maintenance is cause I had an accident with it back in 2004, 2 friggin accidents in 6 months =( and figured I would just drive it till it died, and spend the least amount of $ on it as possible then buy a new car. Didn't think I could get away with basically just changing the oil but hey its still going. My dad does all the maintenace as well. I must of gotten a very good built TL to begin with.

Try getting those same things fixed on a Lexus for that price.

~Cheers~

The Lexus will be about as reliable over 300,000 miles but the parts and service will cost quite a bit more. Not worth it IMO, not to mention the rubber steering feel.

ok well I just got back from my dads, drained the tranny oil/fluid and changed engine oil. My dad said the tranny oil felt like there was no oil in it anymore, 180k km w/o change might do that.

I was at Acura today to pick up some tranny fluid and I asked the guy how many km to change the timing belt and he said 100k km, I thought it was 150k km. Anyways when I told him I am on 180k his reaction was like wtf you need it changed. I've actually decided I am going to go ahead and change the timing belt pretty soon here.

The car also might need some spark plugs I think mine are at least 150k Km since last change. Gonna check that out and the brakes, I think I need to fix my rotors cause when I brake at high speeds the steering wheels shakes a bit and winter is coming up in a few months so that could be a tad dangerous and my abs doesnt work either. There is also this buzzing nosie coming from the glove compartment/passenger side, and its because my drivers side daytime light doesnt work, if i turn on the my headlights the noise goes away. Funny thing is it used to go away if I hit the glove really hard but that quick fix doesn't work anymore lol. Sometimes there is no buzz at all.

Other than my car having a crappy body due to rust, a few accidents and 5-6 months of winter every year, it actually drivers very smooth and when I floor it the engine is smooth and so is the transmission. I used drive this car super hard and put on 40k a year but the last couple years only 25k a year and not driving it has hard but still not driving it like my mother/father would. I have to say I am very impressed with this TL as the gas consumption is still close to when I got it, about 12-12.5L/100KM which is 18-19mpg. I was thinking of selling it to a friend for $750 "as is" so he could use for winter but now that I think about it I am just going to keep it and ride it to the ground, heck I can use it as my winter beater in the future and maybe hit 500k KM one day. That would be awesome.

First TL was 96. Ran it unitl 114k miles. Most reliable beautiful car till this day out of 5 Acuras that i've had to date. I'm still a fan of that original body style. Never had to to anything to it till my roommate totalled itl. I then bought a 2003 CL: perfect, no probs, made payments, no maintenance until I sold 4 years later with 60k miles. perfection. Then after a breif stint with a nissan altima, got a 99 TL > 90k miles > ran perfectly, no maintenance, no probs until it was totalled. Got a 02 TL, 94kmiles, ran perfectly, no maintenance until roommate totalled 2 years later. (need a new room mate right??) So, got a 07 RL in PERFECT 1 owner, 80kmiles, maintenance every 2500 mile interval recorded at the Acruara dealership, had water pump, engine mounts!, timing belt replaced @ 75k, had battery replaced- PERFRECT CONDITION. Then I got it. 2 days after pickingn up > alternator goes out. 3months later, alternator goes out (warranty), maybe 3 weeks later: pretty good blue fluid leak shows up. WTF IS UP?? IT RLs or did ACURA GO TOTAL TO SH!T AFTER 2003-5?? Three Major Repairs in three months with a perfectly kept $50k car. W THE M-EFFIN F is UP WITH THIS??

I sincerrely apologize for vulgarity. I buy Acuras so I don't have to fix them. I particularly buy an Acura with cash mostly and IF i have to make any payments, I look for a purchase for which I won't make repairs WHILE i'm making any payments. NOPE! EFFED ROYALLY. ANyone have any words of incouragement for me? I have weekly nervous breakdowns for various things and I speficically buy a car to not worry about it. Should I sell or hang in there???? Will this go on forever? If so, I'll be selling VERY soon. THank you for reading and understandiing my harsh language about my situation, but this has a major impact on my well being and for various reasons I had to somewhat rant. Again, thank you and pardon my friends.. J

It's an 8 year old car with 75k that has more shit crammed into it then all your previous models. More shit crammed into the car with prices not necessarily growing linearly for the cars itself means something's gotta give. Welcome to the future.

That, or you were finally due for a lemon after much success.
