How heavy is your foot? With a pretty heavy foot (but not crazy), I only got 19mpg with 50/50 freeway/around town. Freeway only with a little A/C I've only gotten 24mpg.

I'm sure if I was only driving around town and driving hard, I'd get down to 16mpg.

You could try cleaning the engine with some Seafoam. There's a write-up on here in a sticky. After that, check your air filter and spark plugs.

I consistently get between 23.5 and 24.7 mpg, driving mostly freeway.. I would check spark plugs, get some fuel injection cleaner...16 is way too low unless you drive only city and you have a heavy foot.

Heat on every morning and night now with the weather getting colder, and I average ~21 mpg.

In the summer I get the same with the a/c on, but then again, I do not allow my car to go below a 1/4 of a tank.

phew...kind glad my numbers match you guys... i get roughly 21-ish mpg. i did a full tune up when my car was 115k (sparks, spark plugs, distributor rotor, distributor cap) 2,500 oil change now with fully synthetic oil.

i am wondering what is your guys rpm for mph? my hwy 60mph is around 2750. & 65mph is 3000 rpm.

i compared that to my hatch and man....what a difference 60mph @ 2400 rpm & 65mph @ 2600 rpm.

but overall i think its decent mpg for an old timer. its still smooth as butter and the inline 5 isn't that weak.

Yeah, 2.5s had shorter gears. It helps explain why we get slightly better mileage, too. Even though we burn more gas per RPM, cruising is at a lower engine speed.

~Cheers~

P.S. Undyroos, my friend spotted you yesterday. He thought it was me and called me to ask if I had gotten new wheels, haha.

It sounds about right. When my engine hasn't reach normal operationg temperature, I get the same numbers you have in your post. But when it is at normal operating temperature, I get ~70MPH @3000RPM. And yes this car's RPM is a little high when compared to many other cars.

I just drove back from work and remembered this thread. So I checked, and at 3000rpm my car goes at 135km/h which is roughly 84mph. Is that normal or is my speedo off?

Well according to Go90go's post above, with a 3.2 it seems about right. It might be a little off, but I wouldn't worry. Maybe just tires or road condition.

Here is my new RPM at 70-72mph after getting an engine flush, a seafoam (last summer) and adding a ram air intake (2 days ago).

I hope this gives me a better gas mileage.

Keep us posted on your new MPG.

Looks like your trip meter is not working.

It might be the cluster because the odometer and trip meter are suppose to work together. So are you close to 187,XXX?

The real mileage is 3k miles higher

I want to go get another one from some local junkyard but Im afraid it will end up having the same issue.

I think I accidentally broke some gear by pushing the little plastic stick to reset the trip meter while driving

At 3000 rpm, I'm doing 85. I've been getting crap for mileage lately, but its been raining and snowing, so I hope that's it. Close to 18.5 city/hwy

Sounds like you don't get too many red lights and if you do, they're short

Question Premuim or Regular ?

Okay on a slightly different note, seeing as we are on the topic of gas, how many of you guys actually burn premium? I know you are suppose to, but gas where I’m at is insane as it is and being from a pretty country background we don’t usually even consider premium XD not to mention the premium gas here isn’t worth the money, we get the bottom of barrel regular or not.

Always use premium in these engines, you'll burn more $$ per mile using regular, the hit in gas mileage and wear/tear on the motor just isn't worth it.

When you guys post mpg's If you don't post which car you have in your sig., it might help to post which model that you have... I do find this very interesting. Both motors get way less mileage than the VTEC 3.2's so is VTEC AND 5speed auto help that much or were there other changes that were made as far as injection etc? Would doing Platinum/Iridium plugs with synthetic oil and whatever else help? Other than a light foot, what are you guys with good mpg's doing passed having a light foot...lol?

Very true. The money you save using 87 in the end will be more expensive than 91+ in the end.

The wear and tear probably won’t change much for me , as I said we get low end gas, to be honest I'm sure are "premium" here is just filter once more, my premium is probably the same as the regular burned in most states, I live on a small island in Canada, we get the last of everything. But I have been considering burning premium despite its price just because lately we have been getting some real bad gas, couple of my neighbors and my father got a bad tank from the Car Care here and got water in their tanks, and completely screwed over my neighbor’s Ford. Now I'm going to ask another slightly different question, keeping in mind this car isn’t mine for another few months, and I don’t know exactly how much oil the car burns, but I do know it is burning a little bit of oil, I have been told that’s normal for a Honda of this mileage and this engine, it’s at 200 thousand Km, can’t tell you the mileage I'm Canadian, but what is your take on that?
