I've found a short wobbly extension works wonders to access the nuts using a 12-pt, 12mm socket.

EGR is usally fairly clean. It's the EGR manifold distribution that usually is blocked.

A shop manual is essential for performing this maintenance correctly.

good luck

Did you ever finish your cleaning?

What do you use to clean the carbon out?

SEAFOAM!!! its like the best crap $8.00 will ever buy!!! just let your car suck up like a half a can. put the other in your oil or fuel. The best way to do it is to get a plastic cup (i used a dunkin dohnuts ice coffee cup washed out cause i had finished it driving in to my house right before seafoaming ) anyways, cut the cup so itll fill about half the seafoam. Grab a friend and tell them to get in the front seat. now while the car is good and hot and still running. grab the pcv valve hose and tell your friend to rev it to about 2 and dont let it go more or less than that. let the hose suck up the SF nice and slow. youll see LOTS OF SMOKE FROM THE EXHAUST. after sucking is done (haha!!!..... sorry.... ), cut the car off. let it sit about 10 minutes. start her up! DONT BE ALARMED if she sounds like crap and look like she breaking down cause your barely getting any acceleration and theres TONS of smoke coming out the ass end! its the seafoam doing its thing. take her for a nice ride giving it some gas every now and then. your check engine light may be on for a little while to. also they recomend getting your spark plugs changed when you do this. also an oil change wouldnt be a bad thing either. both not SUPER urgent but id do it for the hell of it. hope this helped. ima seafoam my ES300 soon. only thing is i dont want to because changing the three rear plugs is going to be A PAIN IN MY A@#!!! ill prolly just wait till i got some extra money and have it changed when i get the timing belt done (in 40,000 miles)
