"Blackout" headlights/tails with tinted film
I just saw this stuff on ebay that is smoke tinted film to "blackout" headlights or tails. Search for 'acura light film' if you want to take a look. I think there are two different brands, but I'm interested in the film that's smoked, not the "smoked" one that looks totally black. Has anyone tried it or know if it's any good?
Here's what it looks like..

Is this stuff reliable? It won't just fall or come off will it?
Of course, it might not be a good idea for me as my headlights have chips on the outside and some dirt/chips/something ll over the inside. It really sucks because it makes them look really nasty and ruins the clean look of my car.

thats what i was talking about a few threads back when someone was talking about spray painting their taillights. this method is much much much better due to that its un-doable. it also comes in red, for those that wanna "red out" the amber part on the taillights. and no it wont fall off.

Any of us 1st gen guys have the smoked tails? I'm still deciding if I want to risk it. I don't like the idea of someone having a good excuse for rear-ending me.

J-Spec - The spray painting that I am planning is also undoable, just not as easily as removing the film as it would be with this way, but also, it is cheaper. Instead of using a tint, you could also use a candy apple red and "red out" the tail light.
Petie - I'm doing mine today with just the turn/reverse parts, but I could always try the rest if the price is right

Well, I PMed RockBlocker but he apparently doesn't make the tint film for 1st gens. So if I wanted to do this, I'd have to get the universal size and cut it myself.

What kind of paint spray do you plan to use?... I am very interested in this mod...

Raw: https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=116978 That is the thread I made after I finished this.
As for the paint, I used Pactra Window Tint (RC294). It is actually made for RC cars with Lexan bodies.
I have the bumper lights done, and the reverse/turn signal parts of the tail, but no pictures of the tails yet. I will soon though.

Rockblocker said they'd do it for $50/set if enough of us were interested, but I think I'd rather get the stuff from ebay for $30 and make my own.

Go to ebay and search for LIGHT FILM and you'll see what I'm talking about. I've looked in Pepboys, etc. but I haven't seen the tinted film for lights. It has a sticky side that secures it to the headlight or tail light.
