98 2.5tl update / dealer service

Thought I would give an update on the '98 TL I received from my Dad.

It is in good shape. A little rust on the roof on both sides which will get fixed once I relocate to Florida.

I have repaired the wipers which I found out were bothering my father for a number of years. Not sure why he never mentioned it to the dealer...I am doubly unsure as to why the dealership never noticed that the wipers were loose and would not travel the full windscreen...it is a common problem that one would think they would check for.

Valve cover gasket kit has been replaced...lots of oil in the spark plug wells so it was indeed time.

Distributor shaft seal has also been replaced. Noticed that the internal seal has been leaking a bit, but it is a small amount so I left it for now - more of a sweat than a leak...

Sway bar bushings have been replaced...one of the four was completely gone. They should have been replaced a long time ago...again I wonder why the dealer didn't recommend it earlier...

Plugs, air filter, fuel filter, and distributor cap and rotor have also been replaced.

Just the left upper control arm to go before getting the car certified for the road...need the ball joint separator first though...

Thanks to everyone on this site...there are some very useful posts here that is for sure!

Did you replace the internal distributor shaft seal yourself? Glad to see that the car is in good hands.

Not yet, as I do not have the part and it appeared to be a small leak. I am also on a bit of a time crunch to get the car on the road so it will have to wait until late spring.

I will let everyone know if I am successful or not when I am done. Groan...have to take the distributor off again...not hard, but very tight working space that is for sure!
