96-98 TL Tranny Questions
Hey everyone! How are things here on the TL side? I'm visiting from the CL pages. I've been on the market for either a Legend or a TL but I was curious if the V6 TL's of this model have the same transmission problems that the 1999-2003's have. I love the body style of these cars but the potential for tranny problems makes me cautious. I've also got my eye out for Legends. I don't like the RL as much because the body lines of the Legend are a lot cleaner. Anyways, any help or advice would be great

The '96 - '98 TL's don't have transmission problems. The engine and transmission are completely different than the later TL's that had issues.

Yep, basically the Type I Legend motor with OBD-II emissions equipment.
And of course the 2.5 TL continued with the Vigor's G25 engine.

honestly go with the legend..i had a 91 legend and it went 350,000 miles until i had to put a new tranny in and of course i did a HG job because the 3.2 engine is just known for that. if u can find a legend GS with the type 2 engine ur gonna be perfect. good luck. let us know.
