3.2 thermostat
I've found instructions to change thermostart on the 2.5, but not for the ist gen 3.2
Has anyone done it or have the service manual instructions. I would appreciate any tips on changing it.

I did it a couple weeks ago. i had no instructions so dont know if correct method but all appears to be working properly.
The TS housing is under the throttle cable housing.
1 remove the throttle plastic cover (2 bolts)
2 undo the 2 bolts on the throttle housing (but no need to remove throttle)
3 remove the earth wire bolt on Ts housing
4 now you should be able to remove the 2 bolts on TS housing ( coolant will come out)
5 you should have enough room the wiggle out the TS and replace new one ensure o ring on properly and valve on top.
6 refit everything.
7 fill coolant
8 start car check for leaks, open air bleed valve until coolant comes out.
9 recheck coolant levels when cools down.

I need this done as well.. ( I think ) Ever so Often I'll be riding and all of a sudden my Temp gauge rises all the way up, and when I press the brakes it'll will go back down. (WTF) sometimes it goes down and sometimes I will have to pull over and turn the car off for a few.
AND I have the worse idle (still, since about last yr this time) it revs heavily until maybe after 15min or so. someone said my car was trying to get gas or something (huh) anyway I bought the thermo so to make this looong story short how do i change it? lol

Thermostat's a b*tch
I replaced the t-stat yesterday. I basically had to start from the air filter and remove everthing to the intake. (Air tube, TCS, braces, engine cover, etc. If your car has the TCS (I think most do) It's so much easier to get to the T-stat if you do it this way. The T-stat is on the LOWER radiator hose. One looks like it goes into the intake, and the other looks to go into the front of the block near the water pump. That's the one.Unfortunately, my 3.2 is still overheating. I think it's the heater core. The car will run fine and the heater won't work, then it starts overheating and the heater kicks in. Then the temp goes down, the heater blows cold again, and it starts over.
**when I reconnected everything in the air/fuel delivery system,(after replacing the T-stat) and started the car, it warmed up and started idling weird. It would jump constantly b/w 700-1200rpms. I disconnected the battery for about 30seconds and it didn't do it again....just a tip in case you have the same prob.
Any help on my heater core is greatly appreciated.

Unless you ran your car 100K w/o changing coolant, I doubt a blocked heater core is your problem.
A possible easy fix is to make sure you completely filled the system w/ coolant. Did you bleed all trapped air? Trapped air can cause intermittent heater action and overheating.
I have heard of water pump impellor corrosion so bad the pump wouldn't move water. This would also arise from very poor coolant maintenance history only.
I know it's not what you want to hear, but have you checked for blown head gasket; coolant reservoir overunning, missing occasionally on startup, loss of coolant w/ no obvious leak. Try removing the radiator cap when car is dead cold and starting engine. If you see bubbles coming to the top of coolant or a geyser out of your radiator, a bad head gasket is very likely. There is also a chemical test of coolant for exhaust gas products. I've had a couple of bad head gaskets and it was always pretty obvious w/ the above cold engine start check.
good luck
