WOW. On the 2.5, 3rd gear lasts to 169km/h (well I guess that's about that range you're getting out of it).

Fuel cut off...is that what I think it is? The enginge stops getting fuel? Is that the definition of a redline?

The redline is the redline. The fuel cutoff is usually past the redline.

When you're shifting your auto manually make sure you take your foot off the gas when shifting. If you don't that will cause a problem but otherwise its ok.

Well that's what I read in the manual. I know it'll fuck up some cars but I'm not willing to try on any of mine.

i always shift with my foot on the gas, if itake my foot off, its a very hard, jerky shift.

besides...if shifting was meant with no foot on the gas, how do you explain normal driving in d4? It shifts with your foot on the gas..

well, , that's controlled by the computer. so it can 'cut' acceleration' for that split second that it takes to shift. and if you're manually shifting the automatic...you're not really telling the tranny when to shift. it's more like putting it into gear at any time...the computer still does the shifting, so the computer has to make the calculations. i'm thinking the ECM is set to give you the best hp along with the best mpg. shifting at redline is just like flooring it...the computer does the same shift procedure.

am i way off base here?

The 2nd gen TL has a far different and far less reliable transmission too...
one would not think the 1st gen tranny is uber reliable if you take all those very hard shifts into account. but hey....so far (knock on huge piece of oak) my tranny is still goin. i even did the shifting into 3rd while in heavy street traffic so i wouldn't have to wait for the engine to rev as much to hit the power band. i needs my acceleration!

and not to contradict what i posted above....i keep it in 3rd until i'm out of the heavy traffic. i just want the higher rpms

The 1st gen trannies are reliable The only exception is that they cannot take a lot of stress, so dont overdo it, nor add any superchargers or turbos.. they cant take it

Yeah it shifts by itself though and shifts a lot faster than any human ever could. Like I said I read it in the manual. I don't have any actual experience with it.

I usually shift down to 2 on turns (like 90-125 degree)...and when I come out of the turns, I explode!
