RIP

They are both a wreck, however I think the RL is in better shape...

BTW, the person in the TL was fleeing police and driving the wrong way. The person in the RL was an innocent victim.

I recently got a speeding ticket the other month. And since then I've decided to drive at 80% of whatever the speed limit is. So if the limit is 50, I go 40. And lately I've been happy to do that. Because to risk killing someone with your car is just really not worth it. I'm just going to be 19 next month, and I hope I can go my whole life without ever having to deal with something like this. I'm terribly sad to hear about this crash (when I don't even know the guy) and what his family will have to struggle with for the rest of their lives. But it's a good reminder to us all to not ever do anything stupid in a car. But I am even more angry that there are people like this Chrystina Stanford that cause this shit to happen. I know it's not very christian-like to wish ill on someone, but boy, do I hope she burns for what she did.

Safe driving to all of you and watch out for the Chrystinas out there on the road.

I don't see how the person being trans has to do with what happened, though. I know a couple trans people and they are really good people.

That's great to hear. Most people don't figure this out until they're much older. It doesn't matter if you go 10 over or 10 under.. you get to your destination about the same time. I always see guys speed pass only to catch them at the stop light. It's better to be a defensive driver. My victories on the road are the accidents I prevented. Drive safe indeed.

It doesn't, and my post was just to be informative. You're new here.. so just to be clear, finding the dirty details about somebody is kind of my thing.

I've exposed plenty of douchebags.. I was looking at the criminal history and what do you know.. nude pics with dick.

Find dirty details away as you'd like. Although maybe we should keep discussion on Acuras and Acura-related things. I feel it'd be real easy to get into some pretty passionate debates on this forum over some stuff. Cause I know I was ready to give you my two cents on trans-issues (considering that my best friend is going through this).

I didn't realize how many posts you had, too. I'm surprised I haven't seen a lot of activity from you. You must not hang around the RL forum too much.

This is probably my second visit to this board.. RL is a respectable board, as you exemplify.. which is why I don't visit much (no trouble to stir up or douchebags to expose, although if you encounter one like a scammer.. send me a PM ).

RL guys.. you can blame Justn

No, but a personal friend of mine. I'd rather not going into details at all just to protect any information of them or me. I haven't seen too many scammers around here. Probably because they do not waste their time on an RL forum that, compared to other cars, gets very little traffic. I only very rarely see any other RLs in my city. I assume you drive an Acura? What kind?

Hey, sorry I meant to put the link (I see MyNameIsEarl used his sleuthing skills) but I fell asleep. I got the story from a friend who works at one of the news stations that covered it. He knows I like pics of smashed Acura's so he sent me the story a few weeks ago. I didn't bother to put most of the details because I didn't want to start any wars here, but alas, we all know the details now.

As far as driving 80% of the speed limit; I can't say I do that. HOWEVER, I definitely don't weave in and out of traffic, with inches to spare, trying to get to the "front" like some assholes do. I would say, however, California is different than where I live, and I have my car set up ATM to avoid speed cameras and police. I have managed up to 136 in my RL (the person I got it from had removed the limiter issue). I woulds say it's rare for me to go much above 80-85 during normal driving. I have a TricPlate to protect against speed cameras and an Escort 9500 to protect against radar/laser and the like. No tickets and no points in all my years of driving (and I hope to keep it that way). I do commend you for taking a proactive stance after getting a speeding ticket.

My brother-in-law used to work for Langley in the special operations and training section; specifically tactical driving training and testing. I asked for many years if I could run the course and I was repeatedly told "no". However, for my 19th birthday, he invited me to a full training session. I was extremely excited and couldn't wait. Anyway, I went and had a blast. There's nothing much that I have done that could beat driving and getting shot with paint-balls as you try to evade "terrorists" (people with black shirts and black bandannas in older Tahoes). People ask me "was it like the crazy driving you see on TV" and the answer is humorously yes! Reverse 180's, P.I.T maneuvers, and high speed reversing while you have your head down and only use your rear-view mirror to see were only a couple of the training modules. After an entire week of training I took the "final exam" and passed with a 93 (apart form a few other things; apparently a paintball ((bullet)) was too close to my "head area" and could have potentially incapacitated me ack).

Although I had a blast, it really taught me a lot about evasive maneuvers and what to "expect" from your car before you actually do something. Although we used Ford Tauruses, Chevy Tahos, and Crown Victorias I felt that the lessons learned can apply to any situation (especially high speed driving or driving in bad weather). I really wish everyone here was required to take courses like these (or similar with a focus on safety). I feel the roads would be safer and drivers would feel much more comfortable behind the wheel. The requirements today for US drivers seems a bit lax to me....but that's just my opinion.

(Sorry for the long rambling story....)

Somehow.. I knew you would find this thread Whisky.

Earl, I own a TL and MDX.

Pro, speed comes second to your ability to react and avoid an accident and keep from causing one as well. You have to respect and the lives on the road including your own. GL avoiding a ticket and keep it under 100. The car can handle the speed.. it's the road that's untested.

I've dogged it out in a rental with my buddy who is a state dept diplomatic security SA. It will indeed make you a better driver and I agree that, at minimum, drivers should pass a tactical defensive driving course.

Indeed, but it's the reaction time I think a lot of people don't get or miss completely. Even though I see this pictures, I trust my car to take car of me as long as I take care of her. I cannot imagine how fast the TL was going, but the story mentioned the TL went "out of sight of the officer", so I am going to assume it was haulin ass. Lets say 60-70 vs. the 40-45 the RL was going. Combined it's a 115 mph crash. I'm surprised neither vehicle broke apart (or maybe I shouldn't be).

I would say I feel safer in my car than a Ford....or Chrysler...(specifically Grand Cherokees from 93-2004 and Liberty's from 2004-2007)

Well I posted the pictures of my accident somewhere here. And The way the car handled the accident, I came out completely uninjured. I do feel really comfortable with our cars ability to handle accidents. 5* crash test ratings, right?

Both the 1G RL and 3G TL are very safe. I've seen accidents of the 3G TL in 100+ and one in a rollover where the TL pancaked yet both driver's walked away with only minor injuries. I've also seen accidents with big rigs with nothing but bare frame and airbags exposed the side, driver also walked away. I've also seen other fatal incidents, one involving a speeding teen fucktard going 120+ in a mercedes that T-boned a 3G TL in an intersection, splitting it in half and killing the husband and wife, yet teen only has minor injuries. They're safe cars, but you can't bet on crazy.

I highly doubt even a 2013 would have survived this kind of accident. If you look at the crash test video of th 99-04 RL body-style, one of the issues was the roof buckling under a front end accident. You can see the issue in the above pics, how the roof line buckled. Now, the crash test was a 40 mph test and it buckled. The fact that this accident was probably almost 3 times that and the roof didn't buckle anymore than a 40 mph crash should speak to the integrity of the shell.

This pic (which I posted here awhile ago) shows similar buckling but to a more extreme degree.

I think the TL was split in half by the Mercedes pushing it into the guardrail that you can see in the bottom of the pic.....even so, the crash must have been huge to push it that hard sideways.

And the kid got 2 1/2 to 7 1/2 years? WTF

It was the pole that cut it in half. I'm pretty sure they wouldn't have survived regardless.

Also, in most cities, the placement of the pole so close to the road is against code. Probably why guard rail was placed there.
