stripped oil drain plug hole 1997 Acura RL

How do I repair? Can I use a larger plug? How do I tap the hole?

Something like a time-sert repair kit should do the trick. The best repair choice would be a new oil pan but that might get costly.

Yep, Time-sert will work for sure.

The new pan is around $100, but the labor to have it done would be several $100's more. I did one on my RL and a Pilot and it's not a hard job, but requires removing a lot of stuff to get the pan off. Be sure to use a new crush washer whenever you change the oil. That's what causes the threads to strip. I buy them by the dozen so I have no excuse not to change them.

I always thought overzealous monkeys in
crappy places like jiffy lube going ham on the air impact gun is what causes them to strip

Especially when they don't take 30 seconds to go get a new crush washer. Trust me on this, my brother is an Acura/Honda tech and he's seen this so many times it's ridiculous. The crush washer is there to take the stress and make the seal. If it's already been crushed all the stress is taken by the threads and it will strip. The Pilot we did was on it's 3rd due to just what you said, Grease Monkeys not changing the washer. I got lucky on my RL. We're able to tighten it enough to get through until the new pan arrived and we had the time to replace. I didn't have to pay labor so swapping the pan made the most sense for me.

That and no new crush washer. It really bugs me how lazy some of those oil change places can be tbh. 3 Ugga-dugga is not a torque spec

OP, I'm glad you got it fixed It honestly shouldn't have happened had they done it right in the first place.
