Side Airbag Warning Light Intermittantly On

The side airbag warning light comes on and goes off intermittantly on my 2000 Acura RL. Sometimes it stays off for 15 or 20 miles, other times it is on and off.

At some point in the past the car has had a shunt at the rear, as there is a crease in the fender.

I have heard that the OPDS on these older RLs can fail, but that would mean that it would be on all the time, right?

I am going to clean the contacts on the seat wiring as a first simple step, then I will try to read and clear the codes with the wire loop method, and lastly consider changing the seat for a more recent one with the later model OPDS.

Anyone else had a similar problem and solved it?
