Your resource doesn't know jack. the RL's transmissions are bullet proof as are the vehicles!!! Only known issue is the rear windows actuators go out....but that's about it....Consumer Reports give the 04 "all red ratings" (the highest)....now whether it is used and abused that's a whole different story....

All 5 speed V6 transmisson in Honda's and Acura's are JUNK and prone to fail.....bad design flaw in 3rd gear....The RL has a bullet proof proven 4 speed transmission.....

Maintenance is REQUIRED on everything.....they don't have a HISTORY of failing like the 5 speed transmission! AND the 1st gen RL is NOT a RACE car!!!! never was intended for that....

BTW it was marketed and sold in limited supply to OLDER folks 55++++ who didn't intend on racing or didn't give a rats ass about poor gas mileage and didn't give a snitz if they backed into anything (NO REVIEW CAMERA IN NAVI).....05+ RL WAS intended for YUPPIES With an income of $100K plus.....

Im aware its required, but mine starts pitching a fit way before its due (per acura's recommendation/requirement) for a flush. Im not saying theyre prone to failure, Im just saying theyre not bulletproof and calling it that probably isnt the best idea. I never said I drove my car hard or fast, I dont, even though im relatively young I know precisely what this car was designed for and what type of car it is. I love my car too much to abuse it.

FLUSH or Transmission oil change? Big difference !!!!! ONLY an authorized Acura dealer should advise on a FLUSH as is not recommended unless they recommend it based on an issue.....Glad to know you don't abuse your RL....She will last you a long time if maintained !

Fabvsix! Not sure if you remember me or not, but you helped me out way back then on .org when I got into my car accident.
Yes, our transmissions are bulletproof. I'd never flush our transmissions. Drain and fill and you're golden. Just a word of advice though, when parts go out they're expensive... way more than your TL, so just be ready to factor that in. And the cars don't like to be lowered much.
