Hello everyone,

I am looking to replace the Michelins (sp?) that are currently on my 04 RL...what would you guys reccommend for a good smooth ride, good handling, year round (rain,snow) tire?? Thanks in advance for any input you may be able to provide.

I just replaced the Michelin's on my 2000rl with a set of Goodyear Assurance ComforTred tires and I very satisfied with both ride quality and road noise.

Goodyear Assurance TripleTreads here. Great all season tire--has done a fine job battling a Michigan winter, and is smooth riding, quiet, and grippy during warmer months.

I'd recommend Michelin Destiny's. They are 80K mile tires and they are available at Discount Tire. I had them on my TL and I don't know if they make them in the size for the RL.
They had a great, smooth, quiet ride and were good in the rain. I don't know about the snow. I considered them and the Goodyear Trippletread and Comforttreads. My guess is the Destiny's are quieter, but don't handle as good as the others in the snow.

I have Toyo Proxes on my 02 and they have been good so far. I think the wear rating is 400 it should last a while. However the GY tires have good ratings too ...

Couple of years back I used to have the Bridgestone G009 (not on the RL) and I liked those too ..

I have the G009s on my RL now. There so so in the winter(Chicago...yuck!) In the summer though there grippy and quiet on the highway.

I really like the Bridgestone Turanzas on my RL. Much better ride and handling than the Michelins. I had another set of wheels and snow tires so I don't know how the Turanzas would do in the snow...

OK thanks a lot for your replies I am leaning towards the Goodyear Triple treads I have one more last question. My current tires are P225 55R 16 a friend of mine has some basically new Triple treads size P225 60R 16 from the research I have done there is basically little difference if any as far as 60 or 55(maybe less than 1 inch diff) which I think is the number that represents the length between the tread and the end of the sidewall?? I can either by the ones from my friend for $300 (only 300 miles on them) or buy from Goodyear for a little over $600....any advice???? thanks.

It basically comes down to you. Your sidewall will be meatier...but to save three hundred dollars it might be worth it.

I can think of 300 reasons why I would buy the set from your friend>

Its definietly a good deal.. But due to sidewall increase you might experience some additional flexing, or in other word if you drive aggresively you "may" feel a little lack of lateral grip especially during aggresive cornering. YMMV

If this is something that will not hamper your driving experience or you are not bothered by it then definitely there is nothing out there that beats the price.
