Picking up 2001 Acura RL 212,000
Hello Folks- I am looking at a local to me 01 RL 2 owner car. Naples Gold Tan Leather Non-Navi. Second owner since 2004 and 40,000. It comes with a folder 2 inches worth, full of work done and repairs from 2004-present.
The RL Drives nice and smooth and tight. Everything seems to work as expected. It does have the SRS light that is on, but saw the fix for that. The TB was changed at 125,xxx, so it is due in the next 12,500 miles and just passed PA inspection, interior looks great, new tires at 190K, work done at 207K includes tune-up, air filter, fuel filter, power steering flush, drive belt change, rear brake pads, all fluids.
It has a scuff on the left front bumper and a little rust forming on the right rear corner, plus a very slight crease on the right front fender. Looking to use as commuter car to work highway and in town 3-4 days (200 miles a week) a week and perhaps a grocery getter as needed. This would be a 4th car, but used in conjunction with my DD which is a manual, but due to left hip and knee arthritis, looking for a reliable automatic.
Owner is asking $1,500 and I offered a $1,000 and he politely said no. Looking at going back to him at $1,150, with $1,200 being my max. Is that a reasonable price for the car and the condition and care it has received from this gentleman?

Tire are pretty decent. Solid car, not a true beater, but not a uber xtra clean car either.....

Im not going into this that the car will last forever, however I am very religious about performing maintenance and proactive service on all my cars. So if I do the TB kit and stay on top of service this car could not go another 50-100,000 miles in the next 10 years? I thought these first generation RL's were built well?

Picked it up last night. Drives great at 60-70MPH as well as 30-50MPH. Will need the TB kit and perhaps while under there do the valve cover gaskets for good measure. Trans fluid flushed 4,000 miles ago last year and car came with a fresh oil change and full tank of gas. Not bad for buying privately....

not a bad find. the body issues look like it can be an easy fix to look more presentable.
at that mileage , timing belt, water pump change now. every 80000 is the manufacturer recommendation. Give the car a nice bath and polishing.
I would also drain and fill with Honda Antifreeze. Vacuum and refill AC, drain and flush brakes, steering, gear oil and replace with Honda product. I can see that ride giving you another 80000 miles without a hitch.
I get about 160 miles out of a tank of gas, mostly city driving. On the highway, I can go about 280-300 miles on a tank. my normal fill up is 13.5 gallons.
