211k on the clock right now. Still running strong, interior is holding up fantastically (except the stearing wheel and shift knob, but that adds a little personality No one believe me when i say its a 96 with 200+k on it. Paints still good also.

98 with 202k miles; bought in 2007 with 148k miles; leaks a bit of oil but runs great; interior is in very good condition.

Was Florida car so sun had damaged the steering wheel on the top only. I bought some bike handlebar wrap and wrapped it. Looks and feels good.

With the proper maintance our cars can last well over 500k, A member on my legend forum was able to get acura to host this speical event as he rolled 500k on his 94 Legend coupe with original engine and trans which for the most part is identical to the first gen RL.

^^that, but dont do like what i did lol. I redline almost every time i got into the car and after 4+ years I had to spend 1k(original quote for 2k+!! yike!) to fix the blue smoke problem. It's better now, anyway is a 96 with 176K.

02 with 158k. Wow I feel like I have low miles.

In the last 30k, 1 control arm and rear sway bar links. Otherwise it's just been regular oil changes every 4k or so.

Well, I have the classic dead odometer, but I am pretty certain I am at 210,000. The transmission is starting to slip, and little dash lights are burning out, but I cannot complain. Everything else is doing fine. Seat heaters, mirror defrosts, A/C. Leather does not have one crack or tear. I have been told not pursue transmission problems on these cars though, which I think applies to most cars at this mileage point. Overall, it runs solid and quiet and has been a good car.

I feel like I have low miles too. I just bought my RL this past December with 150k on it. I have to figure out how to get my paint looking like Old Hatch's and add some gadgets. I just ordered my Parrott Bluetooth to add for handsfree calling and audio streaming. This is the best car I have ever owned, and I have had alot of Honda's through the years.

rockin' 116,xxx

Picked up 07 TL type-S from my local friendly Toyota dealer on Monday, has 116k. . . I knew it was too good to be true, the 105k work was never done! Doh! Pls cross your fingers and pray for me the timing belt doesn't go before my Thursday morning appointment to get that and the rear brakes done. (I paid for independent inspection and knew what I was buying, it's all cool)

Man, I bet the dealer never rode on a test drive like that before.. I was practically having seizures I was so nervous thinking this car is so high class, dignified, so beyond me, how is it even possible they ALLOW me to test drive it?

In parasitius's defense, the TL Type-S is a very nice car also.

seattle97rl, Did you try changing the ATF? I had a dealer tell me that every time someone comes in "needing a rebuild" on their RL an AFT change does it.

Anyway, my 99 is at 170k.

Hey PD Bailey,
Can I assume ATF means Auto Tranny Fluid? I did have new fluid put in a few months ago. My independent mechanic said Honda svc bulletin went out telling mechanics NOT to fully flush trannies like they used to. Do you know anything about that.
I don't know; the Seattle and suburban areas have a lot of hills where your car will do a lot of shifting between 3rd and 4th. Sometimes I remembered to keep it in D3, but sometimes I forgot, and that does drink a little more gas.

I was a passenger in my old '97 TL this past weekend. I had sold it to a friend and it now has over 210,000 miles. He had to replace a radiator hose, drives like new

seattle97rl, yep, automatic transmission fluid. I'm not talking about a flush, I'm talking about replacing it with three changes of about 3 quarts each.

Reminds me, I heard a Mercedes M drive by with its transmission almost completely gone yesterday. The guy was revving it up really high to get it to about 20 MPH and it sounded like he was driving with rocks in his transmission. There were loud gear grinding noises the whole time. He was oblivious and wasn't heading in the direction of a shop. I guess you can't buy common sense. I was imagining him eventually going to a shop and saying, "it doesn't have as much power as it used to."

I miss my 96. That car was all original and was the most reliable car I've ever owned.

my 99 is 400 miles from the 225K mark, and I'm wondering how much longer it will last. It has squeaks from the front and rear suspenson, mild lifter noise above 2500RPM, but she still has a nice interior and gets 20MPG mixed city/suburb/highway, and most importantly the stereo still sounds fantastic so I can drown out those annoying noises! I've driven it conservatively since I got it at 150K and I'm hoping to get it to 250.

I just purchased a 00 RL two weeks ago with 243000 on the clock. I am the third owner, a friend purchased the car at 70000 and it has been meticulously maintained, with records. I am going through car now to get PM up to my standards, had alternator bearings, brushes and regulator replaced, replaced plugs and an O2 sensor and am now chasing a VSA light. After that, shocks all around and a redesign of the underseat trim supports, the plastic needs to be lowered about an inch. I believe every one of those with a 200+ lb driver/passenger has to be broken, it's a bad design. I brought the navigation system back to life. Paint is awesome, interior is awesome.

My 2000 just clocked 344,000 miles recently. The mileage surprises everyone since the paint is still shiny and the interior with not a tear in it.

well at 240K, my 99 has about had it. Loud ticking noises from the engine, tranny slipping in 1st, warped rotors, knocking noises from the suspension, eating about a pint of coolant a day (more if I'm stuck in traffic), ABS light comes on randomly, etc etc etc. Still gets better MPGs than its original EPA rating though!

I'm actually not sure how what measures were taken to preserve the leather, but the quality of leather and wood used in the RL was far superior than that of the earlier Legends. I almost never see RL's with ripped leather. Mine is still soft but there are crack marks in it.

My 97 has 251,000 miles and runs strong. I had to replace the compressor. Also replaced the rear main seal trying to stop an oil leak. I still have the oil leak from the backside of the engine. It's still the best car I've ever owned.
