97 RL - *terrible* gas mileage? Improve?

Should I be getting 17mpg? I didn't expect it to sip gasoline, but geeeez.

Any tricks/tips for improving mileage?

I think that's the only answer you can give to this post. There is nothing that can be done, other than installing a biodiesel fuel system, to improve the gas mileage.

Remove any crap you don't need from the trunk/cabin. People who load up their trunks/interiors with camping gear, etc. will have worse gas mileage than people who keep their cars uncluttered. After that, go buy a bottle of SeaFoam at your local auto parts store. Run half a bottle through your PCV, and the other half in your gas tank. Do this at night because the amount of white smoke bound to come out of your exhaust will make people think your car is on fire. Trust me on that, hehe. Any other questions just post back here.

~Cheers~

18 is what my fiancee gets. and she drives like an old lady. I just took it on a road trip from Texas to Indiana, and I put in Denso Iridium plugs, fresh Mobil 1 5w30, and a K&N panel filter. I got 22.95 on the highway, loaded down with her crap in the car. Around town, 18-19 is average.

I get poor gas mileage as well. I would recommend the same as above. Change out your air filter and plugs. Shows slight improvement but nothing drastic.

My experience: a) keep the tire pressure up on the high side; b) every 3k use Techron in the gas; c) make sure filters are clean; d) go light on the gas when accelerating (when you punch it thats where the big usage is) Dave
