2002 RL SRS light on

My 02 RL3.5 Red SRS light is on after the "side air bag" yellow light flashed a few times occasionally. I am not sure how to turn it off or what the fix may be. Any help is appreciated. Also, Not as important however just like the 98RL that I had occasionally when turning the key to start the car nothing happens and have to turn off/back on until it starts. The previous owner had the same issue and had the starter replaced. It looks like that didn't help.

The not starting all the time may be something as simple as corroded battery terminals or cables. It pays to check the simple things first, however, with the SRS light/side airbag issue if you don't have a code scanner I would go to an auto parts store. I know Autozone, Advance Auto, and Pep Boys stores will scan your car for codes for free and they may find a fault code set for the SRS system.

Could be a slow recognition of the key by the theft protection system. Try turning to the "on" position then waiting for a couple of seconds prior to turning to "start". I've had this behavior for the past few years with my 98 RL, and several others have reported it also.

Hey have you read the SRS code? All you need is a paper clip. If the SRS code is related to a seat belt, the Honda dealership ought to replace it for free. If it's related to the OPDS Sensor and/or Unit, you can check the OPDS Unit part number easily in the back of your seat to see if it needs the upgraded part.

I just bought an 02 RL and after having the oil temp gauge sensor done the check engine came back on. my obdii scanner wouldn’t connect to the ecu so I crossed 4 and 9, the code popped up 8 long blinks and 7 short leading me to srs problem. Could this possibly be seatbelt related as my seatbelts don’t problem suck back in anyways. I’ve heard many times that Honda has a lifetime warranty on seatbelts but not sure. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Yes, you have a seat belt warranty that'll cover the buckles. They might not be in stock though, likely a special order.

Will that fix the code after it’s cleared?

Thank you what a relief! Was hoping it wasn’t anything with airbags
