2000 RL - Aftermarket Radio install (Speaker Static)

Hello everyone,

Wanted to know if anyone that has installed an aftermarket headunit has run into issues with static coming out of the front and rear door speakers? The tweeters seem to have a louder static noise than the others, The rear deck speakers have no static noise whatsoever .

I've installed a Pioneer AVIC-D1 headunit with the proper aftermarket wire harness. Connected all appropriate wires from the HU to the aftermarket wire harness and then connected to the wire harnesses together.

One thing that I did notice was that the OEM radio had a second plug connected to it. This was not part of the radio wire harness plug. My understanding is that this plug operates the rear door speakers and the instructions received with the aftermarket wire harness was that i would lose the rear door speakers. Funny thing is that rear door speakers did work without this plug being connected. However, I still have the dreaded speaker static noise.

First thought was that I had some form of EMS noise coming in somehow. So, I installed a 3 amp diode on the 12 volt constant wire and on the remote wire...NOTHING!!!! Still had the noise. The other annoying thing is that the OEM BOSE amp pops when I turn the car off. Ground??? Hmmmm

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Did you bypass the factory amp or use a harness. Try searching because i know there are a few of us on here with aftermarket headunits and im pretty sure that this was covered. They way i did it was i bypassed the factory amp because i am running a different amp to power my speakers.

you used your speaker level outputs from the Pioner into the oem harness with stock Bose amp and Bose speakers?

Is your car nav or non nav?

I intentionally used the OEM amp. Didn't want to go too crazy. Just wanted to upgrade the HU. But maybe the OEM amp is the problem when hooked up to an aftermarket HU. It is a possibility. However, my buddy has a 1996 RL and I installed a similar aftermarket Pioneer DIN HU and he has no static whatsoever. Go figure????

Thanks for your response.

if the radio was working fine before I suggest using the low level/rca outs on the pioneer to the oem wiring harness. I believe the oem radio sends a low level signal to the amp.

there is a Bose specific adapter around.

Interesting. I never really thought about that. I was also contemplating using the PAC AOEM-HON Acura/Honda Bose Premium Sound System Interface. Maybe that'll fix my static and speaker pop problems.

What do you think about the other plug that goes behind the OEM HU?

Thanks

I don't know off the top of my head exactly, but the other plug on newer models has some nav/onstar cables. Maybe it's the steering wheel controls??? Have to look in the service manual.

I believe Steering wheel control comes from pin #3 out out of the 21 pin OEM Plug harness.

I think the second plug somehow is tied to the rear door speakers. I just can validate it.

BTW- Great looking RL!

thanks.

there's a service manual download at pdftowndotcom. It will be a bunch of pdfs, but scroll through and find the one that says main index to be able to use it correctly.

I believe the wiring diagram is in there somewhere.

Steering wheel control is actually off of pin #13. This second plug does control rear door speakers but it uses the passenger side Multiplex Control System to accomplish it.

Thanks for the info on the manual download info.

I have a very very slight hiss still, but this fixed it and the amp popping.

lol saw your thread. should have started your own thread to get more responses, but thats about right for the RL. No dash kits exist, well not that ive seen outsie of Japan anyway.

Quick question for you. Does your car have navigation or no? cause if you have nav you will be limited as far as only being able to install a single din radio.

This is where I bought mine. If you're willing to spend the cash. Fit like a glove.
