I think that RAVE has the best representation of what the RDX's gas milage is. Realistically the engine is in "break-in" period until the first oil change. I have only 1400 miles on mine and have been getting slightly better gas milage per fill up. (Started off at around 16 , now at 19 mpg).

If you are comparing the RDX to a car, the gas milage isn't that good, but compared to other vehicles in this category 20-25 mpg is good.

RAVE, you will probably be the first one in line for the '08 or '09 RDX with all the milage you got so far.

where do you live? If you live in a major city like I do (Chicago), then I'm not surprised at the low mpg. My wife is getting about 15mpg with just pure city driving. Sounds like your TSX wasn't any better in the beginning, so really, the RDX is not too bad with its extra weight and power.

I am driving 95% city in Toronto, stop and go frequently. I am getting average 12.3 L per 100 KM which is roughly 19-20 MPG. Of course, I don't press hard to the turbo very often unless I need to pass someone ocassionally.

In my first full tank of gas in the RDX, my mileage averaged 22.8 in mixed highway and city driving with a light gas pedal and no sport mode. On a recent highway trip from Phoenix to the Grand Canyon, my mileage was 20.8 from Phoenix to Flagstaff, 27.4 from Flagstaff to Grand Canyon National Park and back (note that this was a relatively flat road with speeds of 55 and 65 mph and I used cruise control, so this mileage was an anomaly) and 24.8 from Flagstaff back down the hill to Phoenix. In purely city driving, I'd be surprised if I cracked 18 mpg even with a light gas pedal.

In terrible San Franicisco stop-and -go, my RDX is getting around 15. I can rarely travel 1/10 mile without stopping or slowing.

Just put 5K miles on my new RDX driving Phoenix - Chicago round trip and my MPG was just about as everyone has commented on. As for the fuel capacity, yes the tank does have a quirk in it when filling. The pump shuts off much too soon to completely fill the tank. I can slowly put an additional 2 gallons into it and have obtained 475 miles to the tank this way. Yes this does not leave room for expansion of the gas when filling this way, but I was using it right away on the highway.

Just did a one hour trip on I-95 south to Wilmington, DE and back up north to NJ. The southbound leg I used S-mode per my driving style preferring to manually select gears while driving on the Interstate. The return northbound leg I decided to use D-mode and Cruise just to compare if it makes a significant difference to my fuel consumption.

It turns out that my consumption for highway cruising using either S or D runs about 24/25 mpg. Perfectly acceptable for me, now that my car has logged 3000 miles.

I'd say 90% city driving as my commute is all city and no highway. my commute home is usually bumper to bumper traffic. I don't drive it hard most of the time, but every once and a while I'll push it in S mode just for fun.

I think it is also worth mentioning that during that 2000 miles, I hardly ever had the AC on. I think some forget that if you are in AUTO on the climate control, the AC is always on, unless it specifically says "A/C OFF" in the display.

Can we state whether these MPGs are from the "Display" of the car or "calculated" using the observed miles divided by the gallons put in?

By using the latter method, 16, 20 and 18 is what I get up to now (1200 on odometer). 20 was from Wichita to Topeka and back on highways.
As you have all noticed, the MPG varies greatly on how one drives..

Hey guys.... just did a road Trip (from Toronto to NYC).... total of 800KMS.... 1 way..... with a full tank going on a average of 110km/h...i get a rating of 11.5L per 100K......the lowest that i got was 10.8L/100km.....

i think this car is pretty good on gas when you're driving highway.... and i also find out that when you set your car in curse control.... its save more gas..... maybe its because it throttle is more contant.....

I find that I can get better gas mileage when not using the cruise control if that is my goal. The cruise control will kick in the turbo boost more often than my foot does. I guess it depends on your driving style.

Turbo boost isn't simply kicked on or off...

Cruise control is notorious for burning more fuel in general due to how it determines when the throttle is to be adjusted. When the car has a turbo charger I imagine it can over calculate the rate at which to increase engine speed.

when the cruise control is on in my STi, it takes maybe 5 seconds of constant manual "accel" mode to have the cruise control go into positive boost. otherwise, in normal cruise mode, it never goes into positive boost.

i wonder how the RDX is, but i would think the cruise control would send a small enough tps signal to not go into positive boost when in cruise mode.

My MID says about 330 miles when I fill it up. It also says my average since purchasing is about 19.2mpg. That is a mix or city and highway, probably 85% city 15% highway lately....

Hmmm...that is acceptable for the type of vehicle the RDX is - and it is so acceptable if you factor the fun and look component.

My range indicator says 360 miles on fill up then shows I have 330 miles left when I have traveled 112 miles - so does that mean I have a total range of 472 miles? All hwy miles.

It continually adjusts the remaining mileage based on the current MPG. So it will vary as you drive. It basically extrapolates what it thinks you can get with the remaining fuel and the current MPG.

Range should be very easy to figure out. We have an 18 gallon tank we get X mpg. 18*X=Range.

I get about 19mpg x 18 gallons = 342miles

of course that is if you actually have a full 18gallons of gas in there, which is very unlikely, and that is based on my average mileage, so if I am driving alot of city, it would be less, but of course I wouldn't really care about range in the city. If I am going on a long road trip, I'd probably get a little more.

If anyone is getting 440 miles on tank, they are getting a minimum of 24mpg, probably more like 26mpg. but like chunter said, that range computer is based on very recent mpg readings.

I've sustained 26 mpg on the Interstate during one trip, what I would consider very long distance driving at about 70 mph continuous. So a 400 mile range in those conditions could be achievable.

After about 1800 miles, here's what I found: I drive 95% city. I have alternated my driving style for 4 tanks. First and third tanks I was very aware of trying to get the best MPG. Slow acceleration, keeping the instant MPG on the screen, etc. Averaged about 20.8 MPG. For the second and fourth tanks, I kept the MPG out of my mind, driving "normal". Half-throttle (and some full throttle!) starts, no MPG on the screen, etc. With these tanks, I got about 19.5 MPG. The conclusion is I'm not going to worry about it anymore. I had MUCH more fun driving the RDX when I wasn't thinking about the MPG. Having some acceleration fun and taking the corners with a little more spped is well worth losing 1 MPG or so.

I was talking to my service manager on friday when i took my car (cl_s 6spd) in for service the day after thanksgiving and he told me he recently purchased one. He said he's getting about 22 mpg on mixed highway and city trips. He said if you don't engage the turbo, and just press the throttle gradually so it doesn't engage the turbo much, you will get good gas mileage. I told him about this forum about people getting 13 and such, and he said you'd really have to be driving it hard to get that kind of mileage, i.e. mashing the throttle all the way down and putting the car in the boost. He said even when using it, talk of poor gas mileage like 13 mpg is way overstated and reduculous, and also you have to wait till the break-in period is over to truly gage it.

I think the service manager is partially right -- about the driving style. However, gas mileage won't jump dramatically after break-in. Typically, you see a 0-5% improvement as the engine wears in. Most modern engines nowadays don't go through the same wear-in process people used to associate with break-in, and give the nominal MPG right away.

Last tank 24.78 mpg, imperial gallons( that would be about 201/2 mpg U.S. Lowest 22.4 highest 24.78 on fill up, approx, half city, half hwy. It depends on your driving style and how bad your city traffic stop go traffic is. I don't drive it really hard but when I do I do. I drive it like my TSX and my mpg with the TSX was on average about 28 mpg. From 23 to 31 mpg.

To be honest I enjoy driving the RDX better than the TSX and in the snow yesterday it was like driving a mountain goat. Between the Blizzak DZ3's and the awd it has been a piece of cake so far.

With the 3500 miles road trip that my family and I took 2 weeks ago, the RDX now has 7800 total miles. I do notice the gas milage getting a little bit better. We started out at around 18 mpg city and 20 mpg highway before the road trip to 19 mpg city and 21-22mpg highway. I haven't resetted trip B ever since we bought the car and it shows an average of 20.8 mpg for trip B. I have a feeling the car will continue to improve to another 2-3 mpg, but I can't see it improving more than that.

As for my driving habits, I do take it easy on the throttle on the highway and try to keep it as steady as possible, but most of my highway speeds are around 70-85 mph. This car definately needs a 6th gear to improve its highway miles. Cruising at 75-80 mph, will get you only 20 mpg. Around the city, I drive normally without worrying too much about using the turbo and I never get any worse than 17 mpg.

I'll keep you guys updated when I hit 10,000 miles which hopefully doesn't come too soon since I try not to use the car too much now since we just burned 3500 miles from the road trip alone.

I have driven 100% highway from Memphis to Knoxville (391+ miles) on a single tank of gas with 1 other passenger averaging around 80 MPH. I had a little gas left too. Don't think I could have made it to 440 miles but this is not bad for an crossover SUV.

Man, I cannot believe the excuses on here. You bought the car with a turbo so you can kick the shit out of it. Yet, if you do, you get the mileage of the Dodge Ram Hemi. What's the sense of having that engine vs. the native 2.4 tsx if you suffer from either wimpy driving or poor gas mileage?

They shouldn't have let a chick design the engine. I will wait for the turbo diesel, lower prices, and nicer front end before I dip my toe in this pond.

this use to work on my evo... if u hook off the battery the ecu has to re learn itself and if u drive normally around town it'll get better gas milage

i just took my new rdx with tech for a trip to pa. it was 488 mile round trip mostly on interstate 80 (& a lot of hills). although i did take it to 90 mph just for a minute or so , i mostly kept it in cruise at 70 mph. i got a nice 22.5 miles average!

2200 miles now, I get 19-20 mpg no matter what I do, mostly highways, and country roads.
I've checked it every fill up. Wish it had a little bigger tank, or better mpg. Seems like I fill it alot!

When I first got the my RDX, I was getting 18-19 mpg. Now, after 2800 miles, I'm getting 16.5 mpg on my last two fillups. Not sure what has changed to cause a drop. I know it wasn't my driving or the gas station I go to. Maybe it's the winter blend.

I haven't noticed any change in mileage since it started getting cold. I'm holding a steady 19-20 since purchase. Over the last 2900 miles the MID displays 19.4mpg Over the last 600 miles the MID says 20.0mpg.

UPDATE:

I don't recall who asked me to perform the MPG based on gallons used & not the dash info (it was in another forum), but i did that this weekend. I had more city driving mix (& more fun!), but the 18.7 on the trip came really close with the fill up. I had 190 miles & I filled the tank back to the top with 10.5 gallons. So i am happy with the mileage accuracy. btw, the trip back today (80% highway), gave me 22.8 mpg average!
