Anyone know when the rear differential fluid should be changed?

There is a break-in fluid that we usually recommend at 7500-1000k miles. We usually recommend changing it every 15,000 after that.

it will come up as a number 6 on your maint minder...i recently had an A16...A1 simple oil change and check the usuals, 6 replace rear diff....if you tow this should be done more often, regular driving, let the MM tell you when. Was about 19k for me.

Funny, I just went through this with my dealer today.

Anyways, they suggested initially 7,500 miles and every 15,000 miles thereafter.

My '6' maintenance indicator came up recently so I had the rear differential fluid replaced today at nearly 16,000 miles (5% indicated oil life remaining). I've had the RDX for just over 400 days. Dealer's list price for the fluid change (labor and parts) is USD 99.

What crap. My Full Time AWD Subaru Legacy only req'd diff changes at 48,000 / 96, 000 kms intervals. And that was with a non-syn based 75/90 fluid.

What in the hell is Acura using??? Vegetable oil?

I just got the A16 and it's bullsht....12K for the differential...I don't think that's fair...anyways, the part that bothers me the most is the tire rotation ($40) that I will be refusing to get, I can get that at Town Fair Tire for free....

Yes, both the transmission and transfer case (front) come up on the sub-item 3 service. The transfer case takes .45 qt Hypoid Gear Oil GL-4 or GL-5 in SAE 80W-90 below 0 F and SAE 90 above 0 F.

In all my other cars, I've generally replaced all gear oil every 15k miles. I may just do it according to the service requests by the car itself this time around, though.

you have to remember that yes some of you were asked to do it at 12k, the MM is putting it in that service so that you dont go over by the time your next service rolls around. it will "round down" so to speak so that you dont get hit with another service reminder 2 or 3k after your last one.

Wait till you get an A16 or B16 on the dash. I just got a B16 at 12.5K miles. Exactly when it's needed is partially dependent on driving style.
