power steering "moans"
The power steering "moans" is back again once the weather is warm now and spring is here. I am beginning to doubt if it's really the climate control system that is the issue. Found out from the web, that there is a TSB for power steering "moan" issue for the 2007 TL. Apparently, it has to do with "air bubbles" forming in the power steering fluid, allowed through the joint where the power steering hose connects to the power steering pump. The TSB called for the replacement of the O-ring at the joint.
Anyone heard of this or has fixed that issue through warranty?

I don't get these responses... I am actually trying to figure out if the power steering noise is what people are still experiencing in their RDX, and I thought I would share what I found out about "similar" issue in the 2007 TL and the TSB Acura released to deal with the problem. I guess folks here think my post was meant to be a joke (?).
Thanks anyway for replying.

i didn't mean it to be interesting, the link to the tsb... I thought this would be a forum where by fellow RDX owners who may have shared similar issues with their cars would want to know that there might be a potential fix for the power steering noise. So, JeremyBalll, you have a particular issue with this? What is your problem? Had a bad or boring day?

oops, didnt mean it to be a joke. what im trying to gauge was: if it continues to be an issue, and since it seems to have been ok in the last few yrs, it might not be a critical thing. (eg. squeaks and rattles where it IS the way of life in an RDX)

I would say take it to the dealer I was having the same problems and my car is at the dealer for 2 weeks now getting fixed . I will post what was replaced all under warranty due too power steering leak .

thanks crazycated, will look out for this too. just wondering tho, if the moaning is caused by power steering leakage, then it shld also be happening during winter months. maybe no "bubbles" form during winter and they spring up during summer? very odd.

Power steering noise from a malfunction is usually associated with colder temps, not warmer.
It could be many things but fluid is a good starting point. The Service Manual refers to a "hissing" noise as a result of low fluid only.
Honda is a bit particular about their power steering fluid. Aftermarket brands are available, but Honda fluid is only about $3.50 at the dealer.
Top it up to the Min line cold (the pic is a hot engine) and clean the reservior before opening it.

Again, I also have this problem, groaning, moaning , farting sound, etc whatever u want to call it. I need to know what it is, I did told my dealer about it before I went over 50k last year, and since they can't replicate the noise while the car was there, they did annotate my complaint, so hopefully they can fix it for me under warranty later.

so i know it's been a long time since this thread started, but now my 08 RDX is moaning & groaning when i turn the wheel (118K miles). came home and found a puddle of fluid on the garage floor. assuming it is power steering fluid.
i was smart enough to not drive far.

Yeah that's you're steering rack going out possibly. When the seals on the rack go bad you start to hear moaning because it's letting air into the system. If the steering get's heavy under low revs and smoothen's out when the RPM's increase it could be that. The issue I saw with all of this was air bubbles, leaking power steering fluid and the symptom I described above.
Was a $1000 dollar fix at the time since I didn't have a garage, but I had the same issue a year later which was covered under warranty by Acura since they said it was probably a bad batch I got. The part alone is about $600. You can find it for cheaper apparently.
That is one possibility.
If you're seeing those symptoms or seeing air bubbles in the PS reservoir while the car is running then its the power steering.
If not with the warmer weather piece you bring up it is most likely just a vent in the air conditioning system.
PS problems are usually exacerbated by cold weather

For those who wish to test the HVAC vent doors, to determine if that is the problem rather than the PS system - WITH THE ENGINE OFF - so that you are not distracted by other noises.

I'm a noob on here and just got my 07 RDX a couple of weeks ago with approx 102k miles on it. The very first night I drove it home the steering started moaning when I turned the wheel, I took it back to the dealer (Independent dealer) and he said when he worked on these cars he recalled a common issue of the steering fluid becoming contaminated and it causing the issue so he offered to flush the fluid. Well he did the flush and also said he replaced a ring that looked worn and it was cheap enough so he didn't charge me for it. Ever since that has been done I've had no issues, it's also important to note I never had any fluid leaking it was just the noise. He said the ring can shrink and allow air to get in the system and cause that issue so I lucked out in not having to pay anything for the fix. Hopefully it holds up but I've put quite a few miles on it since then and haven't heard it since whereas before it did it twice in 4 days so I think it's likely good. Hope this helps someone.

I don't have any power steering moaning; however, the climate does that. I don't think it's the power steering. Try adjusting the climate from cold to hot and see if you hear the same sound.

rdx moan
Hoping I don't have to spend a grand on the steering column if it is that
