New Windshield is leaking

Hello,
I just recently bought a 2008 RDX tech about a month ago. Last week I cracked my windshield called usaa and they recommended safelite, so I made an appointment and they came out that day to replace my glass. the next day driving to work in the rain I noticed water dripping down near the plastic panel near the passenger floor. Didn't think much of it so just went into work, when I got off work it was still a few drops of water. When I got home I pulled up the carpet and pad and it was soaked! I went searching for the leak and came to the conclusion it was coming from the top portion of the windshield. So I went to safelite Friday and they took the glass out and just reinstalled it, still leaking. That night I pulled half the interior out so I could get the front of the headliner down enough to pinpoint the exact entry location of the water. Its coming from the very upper corner of the glass on the passenger side. Safelite told me this vehicle is a high risk install but didnt tell me why. Has anybody else had an issue with getting the windshield replaced cause this is becoming beyond frustrating. Is there something special they have to do in order for the glass to seal properly?

I can't imagine there's anything special about an RDX windshield.

Have you contacted Usaa to inform them that Safelite damaged your car and couldn't rectify the issue after two attempts?

I haven't yet but if they can't install it properly this third time I will definitely be contacting usaa cause this has been ridiculous.

That's awful. I had my front windshield replaced when my RDX was less than a year old, by Safelite, with no issues. Never heard of it being a high risk install, sounds like BS.

The trick is to get as much of the sealant off the metal without removing paint. That lets them use more sealant for a better seal.

If they cut the old glass out and don't remove most of the old sealant (saving them time/$) on the flange it will end up with the new glass not being flush. They know that, so they use less sealant. (saving them mtl $)

Tell them to remove the old sealant.

They other thing they should do is leave the windows cracked open until the sealant dries.

Fortunately it seems that they've finally installed the windshield correctly the third time. I had about a 2 hour steady downpour today and from what I can see its dry with no leaks. I kept the front of the headliner loose so I could see the top of the windshield to look for leaks and all appears fine. Just sucks now that I have kind of a musky mildew smell inside thanks to the wet carpet and padding on the passenger side.

Update:
After 3 weeks of no leaks thinking they finally installed it correctly I came out from dinner tonight after a pretty hard downpour and saw I wet spot on the headliner right where it meets the A pillar trim. I'm so pissed, what should be a simple windshield install they haven't done it right after 3 tries.

Nope, it's been a different tech each time. I don't know if they train these guys to cut corners or what. Each time has only taken 30 minutes or so for the entire uninstall/install where clearly on there website it says the job should take 90 mins to 2 hours. I think I'll have to call usaa and corporate safelite and make them realize I'm done messing around and waisting my time

At some point they will get sick of redoing it, and just refund you, or pay some one else to install it, but that's unlikely, keep riding them until it's fixed for good...

Well today I called USAA and told them about the whole ordeal, they contacted safelite and both companies came to an agreement that it would be best if I took the car to another shop. Of course safelite will be paying for this install and USAA is also having safelite pay for my car to be detailed since I have water spots on my headliner now.

At least it seems like USAA is doing what they can to make it right.

Fingers crossed you finally get it done right!

I had about 3k miles on my 07 RDX when a big rock chipped my windshield good. Since I was changing insurance companies I decided to get it replaced ($0 deductible on glass). Since it was so early in the RDX life cycle they had to use an OEM windshield and it was done right the 1st time. Never had a problem, sorry you are. They should be able to do it but apparently not. Note mine took about 1.5 hrs.
