Highway Robbery - $220 + tax for a B1 service

Just went to the stealer for a B1 service and they wanted $220 + tax. I refused and just got a lube and tire rotation. Still got raped at $150 but feel a little better than 220.
Got home and made myself feel a little better by replacing the cabin air filter myself.

time to look for another dealer or independent for next year. will try to DIY oil change in the spring.

next time bring 5qt Mobil1 jug from Walmart for $20, and you will only $70 ($20 for oil change and $40 tire rotation and balance)

I do the same thing at McDonalds. I order a hamburger and bring my own cheese. I only pay .04 for the slice of cheese at Walmart and McDonalds would have charged me an extra .15 for it.

You still got taken.

A "lube + tire rotation" should cost < the $70 which you "saved".

They charge "$150" for the cabin air filter replacement alone. They charged you backwards.

Darn stealerships.

not really comparing apples to apples here. Do what you want to avoid feeling 'uncomfortable', the reality is that service writers don't give a crap what you bring, and they still make $22 for using your oil (they jack up the price to make it profitable). They advertise $29.99 full oil change, so not sure how how much profit they make from $8 bucks worth of oil.

You all do your self a favor and find a good independent mechanic, you will save a ton of money. I have a 2007 RDX with almost 75k on it. I have a great independent mechanic that has always done first class work on my RDX. I've never paid more than $60 for an oil (synthetic) and filter change. And he usually does the tire rotation free.

Another tip is to get yourself a K&N life time guaranty air filter and install it yourself. The same with a K&N cabin filter.

Like it or not the Acura is basically a Honda. Most reputable independent auto shops are qualified to work on your Acura, if they also do Honda. Check out online reviews when selecting the shop.

Also no matter where you have the oil changed, make sure they are using synthetic oil. I ended up with a $1000 repair to replace a valve timing part that required breaking done the engine. The part failed due to poor quality oil, my mechanic suspected my RDX was given non-synthtic oil on oil changes prior to the part failing. My independent shop did this repair and the RDX runs better than new after the repair.

If you are in the So Cal area I can highly recommend Leo & Son Garage in Bellflower.

I'm pretty sure dealers that do the $29.99 ($24.90 in the case of my local Acura dealer) oil change special only break even and/or even lose money on the oil change itself in the hopes that once you get there, you can be talked into an air filter or a cabin air filter or a transmission flush where there is more $$$.

For a while when the Infiniti dealer was struggling for business, they did a $19.99 oil change special with coupon. My mom and I did that one time; we even got a loaner and didn't get charged the usual $5 gas allowance.

I was like wait a sec so i paid 400$ so u could tell me my car is fine and rotate a few tires around WTF?! they refused a refund and i didnt wanna argue. im never paying for maintainance again. just reset the warning and change the fluids/filters.
