Does check engine light cause oil minder to click down faster?

i have been having a P0420 code for several months. I have replaced o2 sensor, AF sensor, intake rubber breather /air box, spark plugs, etc.

supposedly last owner 1 Year ago replaced the Cat.

my real question is this—— does the check engine light cause the computer to click down the oil life faster?

last oil change was 2000 miles ago, 2 monthss ago and i am down to 15% already? CEL had been on majority of the time with p0420

thanks. Boxster98

No, the maintenance minder and CEL have nothing to do with each other. Something about how you've operated the car in the last two months makes the MM think you're due for an oil change.

the car is telling you something is wrong. Fix the problem and then reassess.

What other service codes are showing along with the "A or B" code? Some services are by mileage and other are by the M.I.D. driving environment algorithm. You might be close/overdue for a mileage service and the only way to get you into the dealership is do an oil change sooner. Things like spark plugs, valve adjustment, antifreeze, or rear diff might be on a mileage schedule if those are showing up in the A or B code also at 15%? I don't know for sure.

My code was showing A, along with a wrench and oil was at 15%. I did a oil change this weekend and manually reset oil Counter.

I was annoyed because i used premium mobil1 15,000 mile extended protection oil and only got 2 months and 2,000 miles before the car wanted oil changed again.

i doubt car knows. But spark plugs, antifreeze, all the scheduled stuff done lately. But i cannot shake this damn 0420 code.

i am thinking of putting a o2 spacer on my rear o2 sensor?

ever heard of doing that ? Does it cause other issues?

Maybe your cat is dying. On my old TL, the cat was dying for about 4 years. I was able to manually reset the CEL in order to pass smog (CA) but eventually it just stayed lit permanently. A bad cat doesn't hurt the car in any way. You are just polluting more. But I eventually had to replace the cat because the next smog test was coming up (every 2 years).

likely just the downstream o2 sensor has gotten lazy.. Replace that one with an OEM one and see if the light disappears.. and if you used the M1 Extended, just pay attention to the miles and ignore the maintenance minder
