Buyers advice checklist '08 RDX 150K miles

Hi guys. New here. Former tsx owner turned INFINITI owner turned BMW owner now looking to jump into a high mileage rdx. What should I look for. I assume the turbo is on the way out... How would I check? Suspension probably worm out as buyer has owned from new and never changed anything. It is pretty cheap But suggestions of things to look for. I remember the door lock actuators on my tsx dying. Any insight is appreciated

No not at all, the turbo is not on the way out at all. We have MANY members with around that mileage and have no issues at all. As long as the owner did the oil changes on time you will have no issues. The biggest issue was on some early RDX’s the AC clutch would fail, not really much major issues to look for otherwise. Remember the engine is based on the Honda K-series lineup and I’m sure you know those run for hundreds of thousands of miles. These RDX’s still had a tranny dip stick so check that too. It it’s been taken care of by the owner then buy ot and don’t worry.

Thanks for the quick reply. I've been worried about the turbo, trans and timing belt which I learned is a chain!! Is the tensioner serviceable?

Three things I remember from Honda ownership.
ball joints, timing belts and cv/drive shafts. If this is all a thing of the past I may seriously be buying this

Nothing to worry about in regards to any of those. The 5 speed trans is rock solid, there have been a couple members on here who have pushed their RDX’s to over 300 wheel horsepower and trans still holding up so that tells me at stock levels it will be fine. It was the early 1999-2004 Honda V6 + 5AT that had a LOT of issues but that was fixed starting 2005 and definitely gone by 2007. It is a timing chain correct and not sure if it is serviceable to be honest (have never heard of it needing to be serviced for that matter). Never heard of ball joint issues, no timing belts on modern 4 cylinder honda engines and no common cv or driveshaft issues either.

Right above the license plate on the rear hatch.

Really all you need to make sure on is maintenance, maintenance, maintenance. 150k miles = replace suspension, flush all fluids immediately (unless there are recent records stating otherwise), inspect other wear items (brakes, serpent belt, etc) and replace as needed. Then go have several years of fun.

Two issues that I DO see, that seem to be more frequent on older models:
1. Turbo variable flow actuator failure (P2263 code can often be a sign)
2. Internal radiator failure causing coolant and trans fluid to mix (I personally believe this is at least partially caused by waiting too long before doing coolant exchange - it becomes corrosive over time as the anti-corrosion additives wear out)

If the coolant has never been changed after nearly 10 years / 150k miles, I would save a few extra bucks for a possible radiator replacement.

2008 RDX, 160K miles, engine and suspension are in excellent shape. The biggest repair I had A/C clutch replacement and HID ballast going bad. Other than that, the car is rock solid. I am original owner, always keep up with all the fluid changes.

My 2008 RDX has had no problems. When it was brand new, the headliner drooped a bit. They replaced that under warranty. Later on, the passenger front door speaker blew. Also replaced under warranty. That one was strange as I don't turn the radio up high. Ever since then, no issues. Currently at 70k miles. Original owner. I follow the MID recommendations religiously.
