hitch
Check out the following site.
http://us.st11.yimg.com/us.st.yimg.c...6_1912_2519171
Just in case, it is one of the accessory pics from Curry Acura. It was meant to show the 'backup warning system' option but it shows the hitch. Not sure though whether it is genuine acura accessory or not.
BTW, does anyone know the rating on the rdx hitch? Class I or II? My guess is I, but just wondering.
Hope it helps.

Sorry to resurrect this thread, but can you post pics? My G/F just got her RDX, and we have a hitch mounted Bike rack from her previous car, and would be interested in what size the aperature where the receiver goes is.....thanks!

Here are pics of my hitch.
Since I also had the rear diffuser, you can see where they have to trim this piece to complete the hitch install.
Also, I got to see the install instructions, a 12 page document with a 6 hour allotment of time to complete the install. That is why this option is so expensive.

Since I can't edit the previous post, I'll have to post again...sorry.
Can one or both of you measure the size of the opening where the ball assembly is inserted into the main hitch unit? Also the distance that the retaining pin is from the edge?
My bike rack is 1.25 inches and the pin distance is 1.5 inches. That will tell me if it's compatible for sure.
Thanks again to both of you, it's a really big help!

The hitch has a 1.25" opening and the center of the pin opening to the end of the hitch is 1.5". Also, the hitch opening is in line with the end of the bumper, that is it is not recessed nor does it extend beyond the bumper either.

you got an installed picture? or is this something you have heard about? Class I hitch is only rated up to 2000lbs. Class II is 3500lbs. tongue weight 1/10 of that. not to mention that the RDX shouldn't be towing 3000lbs anyway. with no driver, passengers or cargo in the vehicle, the limit on the trailer weight is 2459lbs. Add a few people and some cargo and you are quickly approaching the 2000lb limit of the class I hitch receiver. And don't forget the electronic brakes over 1000lbs! Nothing scarier than having a trailer push you down a hill and start fishtailing...
Looks like the hitch receivers at etrailer are class II rated to 3500lbs.

I was thinking about installing hitch a while ago, not because to pull a trailer but to have one of those cargo carrier to move extra stuff. Most of the cargo carrier that I have researched require class II rather than I that Acura's own is. If I can find a one that is classII and does not require whole lot of modifiaction (including cutting portion of the bumper plastic), I will go for it.. I do not want to have roof rack to carry cargo just because few had complaints regarding installation requiring hacksawing and other heavy manuvers.

I just got my RDX Tech a few days ago... and my Hitch is still on order, but according to my dealer, there is some sort of recall or problem with the current Acura RDX Hitch mount. Something about the bolts or something installed interferes with the gas tank or something like that.
I was given the option to either wait for the new hitch from Acrura or cancel the order and receive $500.00 CAD and get a third party hitch.
Any advise or comments ? What would you choose ?

Can you provide more info on the recall?
Those of us with Acura hitches installed want to know how it may affect us. As this was over a $1000 dealer option in the US due to the 6 hour install process per the Acura installation instructions, we need to know what you can find out.

Hi Bobq,
I don't really have any more information except what the Dealer told me. In fact, he didn't really know either, just that they were not able to get a hitch for my RDX and the excuse that Acura Canada told them is that they are slightly modifying it, therefore there will be a delay in the Hitch coming in.
So, it could be that there is a problem with it or that they just forgot to order mine. I doubt I will ever find out. However, I doubt they forgot to order it cuz I kept calling and nagging them for the past month since I ordered the car and options and when the car will be in.
In any case, seeing that you guys spent over 1K for it, I think I will try to get it thru Acura instead of a third party vendor like Hidden Hitch or something.

Hi Again,
I just found out from my Acura Dealer that Acura of Canada is re-designing the Hitch for the RDX. They are no longer selling the original Hitch here in Canada. I don't know much about the US market tho...
That is as much as I can find out.
Sorry Bobq that's the best I can do.

Heard from dealer today
My salesperson let me know that they are recalling RDXs with the Acura trailer hitch due to a welding problem. I was instructed not to tow anything until they can fix the problem.
When I get more info, I will let you know.

Does anyone have pics of an aftermarket hitch (class III 2" opening) on their 07-09 RDX with a rear diffuser? Or a recommendation of a 2" hitch that will clear a rear diffuser. I saw the pics on this thread; but, the owner had to cut the rear diffuser to fit the hitch. I wanted to find a hitch to install for a 2" 4 bike carrier.

I went with:
- Curt Manufacturing 13536 Class III Receiver, $123 Amazon
- Acura OEM Style 3D Chrome Logo Tow Hitch Cover Plug, $27 Amazon
- Trimax T-3BLACK Premium 5/8" Key Receiver Lock Rugged BLACK epoxy powder coat, $13 Amazon
- Buyers Products 1804003 7" x 2" Square Extension Receiver, $48 Amazon
Works for my Softride Dura Assist 4 Bike Rack Swing Away Hitch Mounted. There is less than an inch clearance when the bike rack is mounted (reason for the receiver extension). About 15-20 minutes to install with help and it looks good with rear diffuser.
