AcuraRdxTurboPrject

Hi this will be my forum for stuff I do to my Acura Rdx turbo 08 and I will be showing pics, videos, and other stuff. What I have done is Spectre air intake, Boost Gauge, And muffler resonator delete, I will being doing cat delete and getting it tuned, downpipe, wheels, bc coils, hondata tuner and more to come! Thank you for checking it out.

mrgold35 10-04-2018 12:05 PM

I would add ETS intercooler, progress RSB, and brake upgrades. Keep us posted on the mods! The 1st Gen RDX is one of the best bang for the buck performance CUV out there because of sh-awd and potential with the 2.3T. Only thing holding you back is the 5AT.

CSmoney28 10-04-2018 02:12 PM

I agree, with those plus new injectors and a new fuel pump. This way your not running too lean. That tune and those modifications with be best run with those as well.

See but I feel if I dont run lean my car wont afterfire like it does now. Like it sounds like an ak sometimes its insane

mrgold35 10-04-2018 09:29 PM

The good side effect doing Hondata and ETS intercooler is an increase in combined mpgs. I've heard folks even got another bump in mpgs when they added the downpipe. I can even feel a power bump in winter when the temps get below 40 degrees once I added the ETS intercooler. My combined mpgs was around 17.5 avg before and can range 19-20 mpg combined after my mods:
- Hondata
- ETS intercooler
- Hondata heat-shield gasket
- K/N drop in filter

Along with:
- Eibach lowering springs
- Progress RSB
- KYB rear shocks
- Conti DWS tires

I have +155,000 miles and the RDX was stock for the first 30,000 miles. Zero issues with the mods and the RDX drives a lot better with more power. Save a little money for for stuff like power steering pump/rack, alternator, A/C compressor, or door actuators.

Did the muffler resonator delete do much in terms of increased performance?
How did it change the exhaust sound? How much louder, if any?
Does it make it sound tinny or raspy?

CSmoney28 10-05-2018 01:13 PM

The car running rich causes the fire out of the exhaust I thought, it was the unspent fuel igniting in the exhaust system.

Anyways, I agree with all the mods and savings you need to have for those parts. The door and window acuators always go bad. The a/c compressor also always goes bad too. The batteries also suck I’m on my third battery already. Also, the stock speakers always blow too.

ProjectRdxTurbo 10-05-2018 04:46 PM

Hey Alan the car sounds great no rasp I was worried about that but no sounds really good and not to loud.

Lc46em 10-06-2018 05:53 PM

Damm that blows at least your ok. Upload some picks of it

mrgold35 10-07-2018 06:29 AM

Sorry to hear about the accident and I hope you are 100% A-OK. Doesn't sound like any frame damage or hard enough crash to deploy the airbag. I've always felt pretty safe in the 2 ton RDX.

CSmoney28 10-07-2018 12:56 PM

I’m happy our RDX’s are a top safety pick. Hope your back gets well soon. Quick recovery for your RDX too.

Sorry to hear that man.

Given it's an '08 and airbags were deployed, I can almost guarantee the insurance company will total the car.

Also, just FYI for anyone looking right now, ETS has zero intercoolers on hand and won't make any more until they get 10 orders. So for anyone looking for that particular intercooler, you're a bit S.O.L.

I'm personally fabing my own piping with a front mount intercooler and of course will post pics as things progress but it will be a while as I'm currently honing my TIG welding skills.

Wow, I’m glad I did mine when I had done it. I can’t believe they stopped making them now.

The airbags and glass cost a lot of money. Your truck might be totaled, I hope not.

CSmoney28 10-11-2018 04:55 PM

What your price range for the new vehicle 🚗 and what are you looking for it to be able to do?

ProjectRdxTurbo 10-11-2018 10:11 PM

Im probs gonna get 5000k for the acura if they deem it totaled and my parents said they would add another 5k I want Awd and comes stock with a turbo im hoping to keep my acura but if I do need a new car I would like some help?

mrgold35 10-12-2018 06:08 AM

Acura lost its way after the 1st Gen RDX and went a little soft for a few years. The 19 RDX is Acura attempt to get back to its sporty roots. The 07-12 RDX, 06-08 TL, 07-08 TLS, or 06-08 TSX will have pretty good aftermarket support; but, it is starting to dry up a little because of age. My 08 RDX Tech still drives/rides like the day I got her used back in 2010. You could still go for another RDX if you expand your search to an overnight stay radius. I don't think you will find something as sporty/reliable as the Acura brand with +10 years of age.

CSmoney28 10-12-2018 10:03 AM

I would try to get a 2012 RDX, that way it would have good enough mileage for you to keep it for awhile. I’m not a fan of the front and rear facade but it has the same power train. It also has slightly updated infortainment. A little body matching panels in the front and rear and it should look great, after you get rid of all of those silver accents.

mrgold35 10-12-2018 10:11 AM

The only downside with the 2012 RDX is I don't think you can do the regular/standard $300 Hondata reflash because of the change in the 2012 ECU compared to the 07-11 models. You might need to do the $700 Flash Pro for the 07-12 RDXs anyways with the amount of aftermarket upgrades you want to make.

CSmoney28 10-12-2018 10:47 AM

Do you know what changed with the 2012 ecu? The flashpro should be easier to find since the new RDX came out people will want to sell their mods and go to stock so they can get more for their trade in.

I don't know what is different between the 07-11 RDXs compared to the 12 RDX ECU? Originally, Hondata was only available for the 07-08 RDXs back before 2010. That was the main reason I purchased a used 08 instead of the newer 09 or new refreshed 2010 RDX. Acura tweaked the ECU just enough for the +09 versions and the standard 07-08 reflash didn't work at the time. Eventually, Hondata was able to provide the reflash for the 07-11 RDX versions; but, didn't do so for the 2012 RDXs. I don't know and it could be minor ECU firmware changes, hardware changes, ECU encryption, or Hondata dropping testing/tuning of the 2012 because of the RDX low volume and poor sales. I don't know if the 10-11 RDX ECU could be used for the 12 model? FlashPro seems to be the only way for a tune with the 2012 RDX.

CSmoney28 10-12-2018 10:08 PM

They actually just updated it and added a bunch of features. Now one flash pro is good for years 07-12 rdx’s. I agree that it’s the only reliable tune for the RDX. They always answer the phone and answer your questions. I have nothing but positive experiences with them.
