Considering a 2007 Acura RDX, I have posted in this forum about an Acura TL but decided against it due to transmission issues.
Could you guys give me a run down on major issues and what to look for? I know the biggest issue would be transmission but I just need tips on what to check for. It has 160K miles.

its a used car. a used car will be dependent on how the previous owner treated the car.
you need to test drive them.
and then you can even have an independent mechanic do a pre-purchase inspection performed to make sure the car you are dropping large stacks of cash on is in perfect condition.

this is how you shop for used cars.
inspect, inspect, inspect.
if something is broken you will notice.

p.s. the RDX didnt suffer from severe tranny woes like your oddy, or any other honda..


another great tip someone else gave you in your other thread; you're gonna go through many many many RDX's,TL's before you come across the perfect one...
be patient. Dont rush. have a pre-purchase inspection performed

Thanks for the advice. What is the correct idle rpm for the 2007 Acura rdx? I need this question answered fast if possible.

Fully warmed the car should idle around 600-700 rpm, but it will he higher on a cold start.

I hope you're aware of the poor MPG the 1st gen RDX has. It's a 4000lb car with a turbo engine. If you have a lead foot, don't be surprised at 17-19 MPG mixed driving.

What color should the transmission fluid be? Just checked it and it was brownish.

Transmission should be a nice medium reddish color. Just changed mine (2x drain and fill) in the last month in this car and two others, and the old coming out was a darker red. The new was a medium colored red. Use Honda ATF only. May want to check your antifreeze color as well. I just drained and filled that this weekend. New is a nice pretty blue color. If it is dark, may want to change that as well. Neither are hard to do. Good luck

well its red coming out the bottle so thats not a great sign. as far as mileage goes I've found it is greatly dependent on terrain type if its flat your golden. if its hilly welll... shat.

I bought a 2007 RDX a few months ago. I'm getting around 17.5 MPG in 90% around-town driving enjoying the turbo at times. May not sound great, but it beats the 15.0 MPG the 08 MDX gets in the same driving

My 2007 RDX is at 100,000 miles, and still running great. The only things I have done to it, are replacing the rotors , front and back , with aftermarket cross-drilled ones. And recently replaced the suspension set up with KYBs, and also the sway-bar links with the bushings.

Otherwise, have been changing the engine oil/filter every 5,000 miles with Pennzoil synthetic and only top-tier fuel goes into the engine. Plus replaced the transmission fluid at 60,000 miles. Rear transaxle fluid replaced every 2 years.

It has been running smooth all this time. Fuel economy is around 20mpg. Transmission shifts smoothly as well. Overall, The honda reliability/quality is definitely evident in the RDX.

Bought my '07 new - has about 108k and going strong with only basic maintenance; never any major issues, knock on wood. Change the air and cabin filters yourself to save some bucks. I get free oil changes at dealer. I have them do a few other minor things like fluid changes as well, and have expensive stuff done at local, cheaper shops. I'd be happy to have that done at dealer if they were even close to realistic pricing. Their loss.

MPG has always been shite even when not getting on the turbo. I get about 300 miles out of every tank, so about 18mgp based on a 16.8 gallons. Mostly short city trips. Highway I can get closer to 330-350 if I'm lucky. I like that the newer ones have a V6; my dealer guy told me they are coming out with another 4-banger for the RDX though. Interesting. Drove a TLX loaner with a 4, it had some nice acceleration. Good luck and enjoy your new ride.
