What to do with CL

Hey guys,

So I have a 97 2.2cl 85k miles..but its auto . Had it for about a year, and had some 18" Enkei EM5 wheels on it for awhile, heres the pic:

It needed lowering bad but at the time I didn't have the cash. Now the tires have about less than 5% tread lol so i'm itchy about spending 200 on tires and probably the same on coilovers or something.

Rolling just 10k DDM tuning HID's and alpine deck/sub/amp right now looking completely stock except nice lights at night that make it stick out a little .

Nowish:

Hood might be popped in the pic....whoops

Trying to decide where to go from here, i've been working a bunch and plan on selling the wheels(Northwestern Minnesota if anyone is interested!) so i'll have close to $2,000 to work with in about a month. The f22 just isn't very fun with auto so it seems like a dead end to throw on I/H/E and the auto tranny doesn't take much more than 200hp I hear? Thinking about maybe selling the CL and getting something else for around 4-7 grand.

Anyone got any ideas of where to go from here? Really interested in something quicker really, and don't think this car really has the easy means to become that.

2nd gen CL
5th gen Prelude
Integra
3000GT
300ZX
latest gen Tiburon
latest gen Celica GTS

Whatever you're into.
I'm personally thinking of getting either a Prelude, 3000GT, or 300ZX for my next car. I'm leaning more towards the lude but a 300ZX would be hot as hell. RWD ftw!

yeah selling it really does seem the best option...especially since its low miles and was a Florida car before I got it, and has a nice paint job still. Ghettoninja, yeah a 2nd gen CL would be sweet, especially a 03 CL-S 6-speed. How much more do they cost than a 1st gen? And as far as other cars, ive been looking into the 1.8t engine found in the audi a4 1.8t, jetta/golf 1.8t,passata, etc. Seems to be a real winner for easy modifications. I'm really interested in boost

or you can swap over to manual and boost especially since you have low mileage. That's what I would want to do if I had the $.

fred did you really suggest a hyundai?

honestly if you're bored with it get something else, if you can find a 99-00 civic Si i would get one of those, or a teggy, prelude, or celica

I thought the same about Hyundai till I sat in my friend's GT Limited. Good God that thing was beautiful! The interior is what really amazed me. Exterior, ehh, same reason why I don't like the Celica but I can see why other people would. Nice cheap cars with great warranty.

edit: actually I could get into the styling. Previous gen doesn't look that bad either.

Very CL looking imo with a kind of muscley appeal. I like!
Dunno wtf that bumper sticker is doing there...

Dude, don't sleep on Hyundai's. Genesis coupe and sedan are amazing. My old landlord/roommate is a hyundai salesman and i've driven the new line of hyundai cars, they're impressive.

Ya I like the newer stuff they have but the older Tiburon and stuff isn't anything special. On a different note, anyone have any experience with the 1.8t engine in the audi a4/volkswagen golf/jetta/passat?

yeah..that is true. For northern minnesota an A4 with quattro awd seems ideal, plus could turn into a fun car to drive other times of the year.

ya I have thought about a wrx a lot..they just are so common around here it seems, and it seems most of the kids/guys that drive them know nothing about cars but have a big huge can on them lol. I kind of wanted something more unique but I guess that's hard to do. Hmm interesting comment DaInFaMMuS1, a guy at a local tuning shop told me the same thing, lot of issues.

you could get a 1g/2g DSM (91-99 eclipse or talon) some of them came in AWD and the 2.0 turbo is an absolute blast to drive...i would know i have one haha...responds well to mods and cheap aswell... the only thing is they can be as bad as the audi's/jetta's with breakdowns believe me i know that too i have 78k on my 96 Talon TSi and its been in the shop more than my acura with double the miles. but once you feel the boost theres no turning back

3000GT >>>>> DSM
Nothing personal DSM guys, I just hate Eclipse's. Just seems like such a ricer car to me. I know I'm wrong but I just couldn't bring myself to own one. My bro had a Talon and loved it.....or hated it....forgot.
The GT might not be everyone's taste but I think they are soooooooo sexy! If they wern't so underpowered, and the VR4's wern't so over priced, they would be amazing!

I think 3000GT's are both ugly and slow, the only good looking model is the vr-4, and thats the later years. there are very few really fast vr-4's i've seen because of their weight.

i kind of agree fred, DSMs do seem like ricer cars, but only because every muhfugga who gets their hands on one puts a park bench spoiler, altezza lights, body kit and fart can on it. but if they're done right (drop, sensible rims, no parkbench/altezza/bodykit) they can be pretty cool IMO. i passed a DSM convertible in maryland one time, and it was really sexy because it was done right.

I would love to have a old school 22B though. as for DSM cars i never really like them and i knew a couple of people that had them, said they were never realiable. too bad we don't have the old school evo's. Evo 3 or 4 ftw.

one of my buddies had a earlier 90's galant vr4, thing was sexy and quick. they are pretty much evo 0 I think. I won't get a DSM lol they are not worth the trouble to own one. The cable shifter also has a weird feeling I think. Definitely a cool car though. Something turbo or supercharged would be neato, but I also don't wanna have to spend 2-5 grand on a turbo/supercharger kit lol.

My friend's VR-4 would lay 4 rubber strips down and it was FAST... the only thing is that it spent more time on a lift or parked than it actually saw roads.

The 97 gen Nissan Maxima are super nice and pretty quick if you want to go the sedan route. They are pretty cheap now and most are 5 speeds! My bro had one with tons of miles with no problems.

yeah they aren't bad, i'm not a huge fan of their looks but one other thing i'm looking into is mod'ability. What's a 03 cl-s 6 speed go for with somewhat average miles? And back on the german debate, anyone got any info on say volkswagen jetta vs the audi a4 as far as reliability?

From what I've heard, Jettas are reliable up to 100k miles. a4 would be cool, don't know much about audi's though. If you don't have much money, I would keep it Japanese.

true that, I found this wrx http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/ws...782311321.html that I sent an e-mail towards, looks clean and stock which would be a definite plus.

audis are crap imo, one of my neighbors has one and it sounds like complete balls, like his engine is filled with gravel. i agree with fred, keep it japanese.

just go on cars.com and look up CLs. they can go anywhere from 6k-15k. but if you want mod-a-bility, go with a civic/teg or something thats fairly common. they do get jacked a lot tho, (thats why i dont have one, as much as id love a blue 2000 Si), but i dont think that would be much of a problem in NW minnesota.

the only thing i would worry about that WRX is that the high mileage on the turbo. but i would go check the subaru forums before checking to see any common problems with that model.

yeah...probably would mean a replacement/upgraded turbo in the near future. On mod'ability I guess I meant more or less ability to increase power...civic/teg you can throw i/h/e on it but don't gain much until you boost it seems.
