I'm moving to Daytona soon and I want to rent a 4 X 8 foot box trailer from Uhaul and tow it behind my 1998 3.0 CL. I'll have to install a Class 1 2000 lb max hitch. I'll have about 500-750 lbs of stuff in the trailer and the trip will be 1600 miles. The car has 62,000 miles. Think the can the transmission handle this?

I wouldnt do that, just because its a cl- not a truck. It might be hard on the tranny also. You might want to look into a tranny cooler.

the trailer itself weighs close to 800 pounds on its own. So keep that in mind. What does the Manual say you can tow? If you decide to do this dont drive over 65 with that thing behind you.

Think about getting a rental SUV to drag that thing cross country, it will cost more but save you lots of wear and tear.

If you decide to do it, DEFINITELY get a tranny cooler. They're cheap, and relatively easy to install.

Thanks for the help. I don't have a owners manual so I wasn't sure.

I can rent a Uhaul truck and tow the CL for $1000 more but it may be worth it to save ware and tear on the CL's tranny.

Yeah, tell me about it. But if I dropped my tranny it would be more than a grand to replace it. But I do have an extended warranty, think that would that cover a blown tranny due to towing a trailer? :o

The low end torque of the 3.0 sucks. That's is what you need to tow anything and plenty of it at that. Aside from the tranny problems you may incounter, the car won't have enough pull to tow that much weight without a massive amount of strain on the engine and trans., especially for a 1600 mile trip.
