timing belt service, what exactly is replaced, the belt only?

hey all i was examining my engine today and it still has the messed up sound... i think its the timing belt wheel which creats weird noise while the timing belt wheel is spinning... while in idle i can only heat it.. when i rev it up a tiny bit its gone...

so i was wondering when i get my timing belt replaced.. is it just the belts, water pump replaced?.. will all the wheels that spin all the belts be replaced with new wheels or whatever they are suposed to be called?

Most places would replace the belts and the water pump. Whenever I buy a new honda I do T-belt, water pump, cooling hoses, and accessory belts. If there is a balance belt or anything else, obviously do that too while you are in there. You could get underdrive pulleys if you wanted while the belts are off if that is something you are interested in(the wheel things that spin.)

oh ok so they do not replace all the pulleys.. just the water pump pulley and all of the rest of the belts.. hmmm sounds like a good idea to replace the pulleys with some aftermarket light weight ones... does anyone know a good brand i can trust to get which will not mess up my car?? a site would be good that will send to canada... car is being brought to acura for the timing belt replace, they said they replace the water pump too.... but will acura even help you install after market pulleys?

also how much is the pulleys gonna run me? and would it bring a more noticable difference in speeeeeed??

Is it a whine kind of noise? Your power steering pump may be going bad. Or it could just need fluid. Mine does it too.

If mileage (105K) or time 7 yrs has elapsed, timing and balance shaft belts should be replaced, along w/ water pump and tensioners.

Although tensioners might last two TB intervals, a frozen bearing would cause the belt to break or jump timing and lead to engine damage. Additionally they are relatively inexpensive. If you're really want low cost, you can clean and repack the tensioner bearings if you're careful to pry the bearing seal out so it can be reinstalled.

Total parts kit is inexpensive. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/94-02...mZ170260265807

good luck

yes it is a whining noise, I've never changed the p/s fluid befor and the steering does feel loose.. Is there a way I could replace the fluid myself? This is my second timing belt so I'll tell them I need those parts thanks

In all honesty it seems like you have no idea what ur talking about. I think you can try to diagnose the problem yourself but in my opinion do not try to change your timing belt. You do not seem to have the adequate knowledge to do such a task. You do understand that if you manage to do the slightest wrong the damage will be catastrophic. Do not confuse yourself with a timing/balancer belt change vs accesory belt change. Based of what uv explained Im not convinced that your timing belt is faulty in anyway. Your water pump might need to be checked and heard by a machanic to rule out that posibility. Other than that you need to try to learn your terminology and try to be thorough in your description. Pictures would help. I understand that some of us aren't as giften and talented as others but you have to try to send out a clear description of what you mean.

obviously i would never attempt to touch the belts at all... all mechanical stuff is left to a pro mechanic.. unless its a battery, oil change, brake change and the simple stuff then i do it myself.. i have to bring in the acura cl to the acura service dept to get the timing belt replaced since time is almost up(15,000kms to go)

i took a sniff of the power steering fluid resorvoir with the cap off and it(PS fluid) smelt like burnt plastic, that got burnt at a really high tempature... is that smell normal cause it doesnt smell normal to me?.. could it be bad PS fluid, which is causing the power steering to go bad and making the fluid smell ike burnt plastic? like i said i never got a steering fluid change since i got the car which is about 15,000kms ago... im starting to think my power steering is gonna fail... but pics will be taken soon it looks bad..

thats very unlikely. PS steering fluid doesn't smell like lavander. Just have a local mechanic listen to it. You need to find out what sqeals or whynes and change it. I have two 97 2.2 P.S pumps for sale if ur looking to buy.

Well from what you described doesnt sound like a PS pump to me, cuz you would only hear that whine when you are turning. Although god knows what your trying to describe..My suggestion would be find a local mechanic or take it to the dealership and have them listen to it might just be a loose belt =/

when you go for the the dreaded timing belt service the following must be done at the least:
1) Timing Belt
2) Balancer Belt
3) Water Pump
4) Camshaft and Crank Seal

my power steering pump is on the way out and it whines all the time now, It does change in pitch when I turn my wheels.

johnnyblaz3; your steering should get stiffer with the power steering pump going, not looser. You might wanna have your steering rack checked out, that could be very dangerous.
