Sony cdxm-750
Sony cdxm-750, i think thats what its called.
Anyone have expiernce with this headunit or the 600, or 650. It looks very nice, and I like the fact that it is 4x50.
TW1112, you have the 600 i think. Do you like it, how is the quality and everything else. Also how much.

TW1112 could probably answer this better, but if you replace the head unit, you're in for a serious upgrade on the stereo itself. The Bose speakers have amps on them, so if you replace the head unit only, you'll need to either get all new speakers, or have converters put in so the speakers function properly. From what I've read on here, it's pretty much an all of nothing deal....

Sorry, but nope I dont have an aftermarket head unit yet. I was thinking about it, but then the issues that juniorbean brought up stopped me. It really is either a change everything or leave everything kind of situation. You can change the head unit, but acura made it kind of hard for us to get around the speakers. If you would like more power out of your car, I would suggest just going with an amp and subs.
If I do replace the head unit, I will post results and a how to guide
Oh btw, I bought a service manual supplement yesterday for the 97-98 CL's, so if anyone needs something from there I can try to find it and scan it for you

i am very new to sound systems
Well I was planning on changing everything some time.
I want 2 12" (not sure of the watts), an amp for the subs. And an amp for the mids that i will put in. And then head unit.
I was just planning on the headunit first.
What do you mean there is a AMP for every speaker in the car or just a main amp.
I don't really see what the problem is, can you explain in more detail.
also, can you tell me what exactly a crossover is, i know its a dumb question but i am very new to audio.
thanx

By saying that there is an amp for every speaker, you should take it literally. Next to each speaker, or behind it, there is a small amp made just for that speaker alone. I will try and post a diagram of it from the manual..I am not home right now so I don't have a scanner.
As for the crossovers, I think, are used to direct a sepereate freq. sounds to the woofer, tweeter, and mid range speakers.

OK the whole bose thing really sucks. My moms Q45 blew a speaker and Bose wanted a ton to replace it so we decided to replace all the speakers. Well that meant that we had to put an amp in and have the whole thing rewired cause the after market head unit's amp will over power the speaker amps and cause them to blow. Kinda hard to understand but thats the best i could describe it. Its like juniorbean said "all or nothing"
