Rear bumper impact- will it crack or spider?
The Ms. smacked into a trailer last week and put some nasty gouges into the bumper skin/cover, popping it out of place on the drivers side. She also broke out the driver's tail light (replaced now) and it was hard enough to smash in the metal behind the light and inch or 2. I managed to hammer and bend out the metal and reform it very close to right on, and now my main concern is the bumper. Has anybody backed into something or been mildly rear ended? Does the bumper cover/skin end up with the spider web cracking spreading from the point of impact like so many American cars do, or does it hold up well? If it can be saved, I'll clean up the mess and probably use glass resin, then repaint. I'd rather not replace the whole thing at the moment if I don't have to due to budget concerns, but I also don't want it to look like crap 6 months down the line if it starts to crack and peel. Anybody, chime in please.

idk it never happened to me when i was rear ended. i also reversed into a jeep and pushed in the passenger side back corner of the bumper and pushed it back out. never did a spider web thing on me. I think that american, japanese, and euro car companies have a different style of doing their paint jobs on their cars. the only spider web thing i got was on my first car which was a mercury cougar 94.

I got rear ended 2 years ago it spidered on impact, but they never spread. It kind of buckled around the license plate and you can see some black behind the cracks, but it never spread.
