Poor Stitching On Leather Seats...

Hey guys!

Has anyone been experiencing poor stitching quality on their leather seats? My car has very low miles and is in very good condition but I've already had to have my stinkin driver's seatback leather replaced. The problem was that the leather stitching had started to come apart and thus was beginning to let the patches of leather come apart. It was much more visible on the drivers side but upon closer examination, the passenger's side seatback was starting to do that, as well. The regional rep flew out to the dealer to see whether or not they'd repair it under warranty and they ended up doing so for the driver's side ONLY. Grrr! Anyway, they assured me it would be ok but to this day, the leather doesn't have that molded/sculpted look it once had. I'm a little irritated but what can I do, right? The service guy is a sweetie and he told me that this is pretty common on the GEN1 CLs and he had shown me another '98 CL that had been in the same day for the same problem but on the lower seat cushion. Anyway, anyone else have/had these problems? Cause I know for a fact it wasn't just the "wear and tear" -- I'm much too anal for that to happen

So, drop us a line or two with your issues regarding poor stitching on the leather

Same here, never had a problem. I'll keep my eyes open and make sure of it. Where exactly was it? The seams under your butt, back or around the sides of the seat or perhaps the rear someplace?

Yeah the leather ripped around the stitching so I took it to the dealer. Since the car is still under warranty they fixed it for free. They ended up replacing four pieces because it was where they all came together. It looked a little different for a few weeks but after it got broken in you can't tell a diference.

I have had my car since day one and have taken very good care of the leather but it still cracks. I havent noticed too many stitching problems but you wont notice the stitching when the cheap leather starts to crack and tear. sorry but its true

Yup, because it came apart where various lthr pieces joined, the whole seatback covering was replaced (aside from the headrest which is a seperate covering). Well, if you look in my photos on my page you can see that it's not very noticeable but it doesn't fit as snugly as did the original stuff did. Um... it came apart when looking at the seatback from head-on (where the sterring wheel is), it would have been in the lower portion of the RIGHT SIDE (closest to the door) right where the "wing" holds you snugly in place meets the backrest part. I'll take more pics to show y'all. Anyway, that's the basic idea.

There is an impefection in the stitching in the center hump in the rear seats. It looks like there is just no stitching there at all, but I dont feel like taking my car in to get it fixed. Too much trouble.

When I took mine in it only took a day. I actually took it in in the moarning and went to pick it up at 5:00. It took a couple days to get the leather though since they had to order it from acura so it would match. I'm not sure how much it would cost if your warranty has already run out, but actually getting it fixed was easy.

I have the exact same thing and so should every other first generation cl owner. It's there to tuck the middle belt into.

I'm like you, Maui, I take really good care of my car. But my '98 hasn't had any problems with the leather stitching. In fact, the material itself still looks great! The leather in my two-year newer BMW looks more worn out...

My car is my baby too... but there are some things you just cant control...
I clean and condition my leather all the time.. my stiching never once broke apart, but the leather is wearing out in spots and getting the "over used" look.. I gotta stop driving it...lol Come to think of it.. my steering wheel is worn too!

Yeah that's one thing I dislike about lthr. I don't like how it "ages" -- cloth is not as high maintenance but, ahhh, the sacrifices to have that nice lthr smell!
