PO401 and poor Mileage

My 98 3.0 threw the PO401 about a month ago. I assumed the EGR just needs cleaning again(did it about 50k ago). The last two weeks i've noticed my mileage substantially drop. Im only getting roughly 300mi per tank. In addition ive noticed that when i top off the needle no longer goes past full. It goes to a little under full. The gas light no longer comes on either.

The P0401 code would have nothing to do with your needle nor the gas light but if you are getting that code it is definitely the EGR clogging problem but it is a real easy fix and if you are not sure about how to fix it there is a guide on here that gives you every step on how to accomplish the fix
