Ok quickly... stereo question

I'm sure it may exist somewhere on here but a thread is way quicker and to the point. I have a 98 3.0 premium with the bose stereo, IF i just replace the headunit with an alpine/kenwood/whatever aftermarket, will it work with the stock speakers or do i have to replace them all
