Oil Pan Removal
Hi Guys,
I drive a 2.3cl 1998, is there a special method for droppping the OIL PAN. Yesterday I was changing the oil and noticed a lot of oil drops spread around the bottom of the engine. I guess I need to change the gasket of the oil pan.
I have close to 210,000 miles on the engine. My question is I see the pan and the bolts holding the pan but then I see the pan going into the what I see is the tranny casing and am sure that there are a couple of bolts sitting inside there as well....how do I go about removing the pan and these bolts????
Also if I am at it would like to replace the Oil Pick up screen...i guess thats what it is called....where can I buy this??? R they dealer part only???
Any insight would be help full...
Thankx
JFK

My only experience is with the 2.2 but it's probably the same. The most difficult part will be removing the exhaust. I'd suggest spraying the exhaust bolts down with some WD-40 or something similar and letting it sit for awhile before removing them.
If I remember correctly, you need to remove a small semi-circular plate to get at a few of the oil pan bolts. I'd also suggest picking up new bolts for the oil pan when you reinstall it. I had one break on me inside the block and it was a pain in the ass.

have a hole in my pan and am in the process of changing it. My question is similar and it is about the pan going under the crank case. I have removed the bolts and ready to pull off the case. Any help is appreciated. 99 cl 2.3 manual tranny.

I believe the only two things you need to remove are the exhaust piece that runs underneath the oil pan and the metal brace that runs between both the front subframe and the power steering subframe.
All the oil pan bolts are visible. You may have to gently pry at the pan after you got the bolts off. I recommend putting the new gasket on the pan with a little bit of black rtv to hold it in place for when you put the pan back on the block.
