newbie - radio security code
Hello out there
I recently had to give up my truck due to a long commute and high gas prices...ended up buying a '97 2.2 CL with 78,000 miles. Its a great car but does need some attention.
My question revolves around the sound system...once I replace the battery, it will no longer work unless I enter a code. The previous owner never wrote the code down in the paperwork I got with the car. Any suggestions on how to get around this inevitable problem?
Thanks!
Tom

i called a dealership here in VA....they said if i didn't buy the car from them, which i didn't, they'd charge me $75 because they have to remove the stereo, get the serial number behind it and look it up in their system. they can't do it via the VIN. so what i intend to do this weekend is try and remove the stereo myself and give them the serial number. i plan to attach a cd changer anyway, so i'll be tackling two issues at one time. if any one else has any suggestions, please.....

I really don't have any other suggestions other then a) contacting the dealer the car originally came from or b) contact Acura directly (contact info is on their website). One of those 2 routes should yield an answer. Good luck and keep us posted!!

man, that bites. really glad the dealer thought enough to write down my code. I didn't.
seems like any acura dealer would be able to access the complete history of the car, tell you where it was orig purchased, call them for you. I'm surprised.
I'd definitely call a different dealer - or acura - before you start taking the dash apart.

guess what...i called the acura # @(800) 382-2238....gave them my VIN number and asked them who was the original dealership that had my acura. they gave me that dealership's name here in VA. i gave that dealership a call, gave them my VIN and the service person gave me the code for my cd palyer over the phone. i just saved myself $75.00. hope that helps!!!

Great replys...thanks. I will try to track down the original dealership and give that 800 number a call. I am sure the more I drive this car, the more questions I will have. I am enjoying it.

Same crap happend to my when i bought my CL. Just take it out and get the serial number and read it to any dealer.
Or just give the VIN number to any dealership and ask them to give you the original dealer.
both are easy. i did the first one.

I own 2002 CL, instructions I got from customer service:
1. Get Serial Number from your stereo
2. Request Code from any Acura dealer.
How to get the serial number from your stereo. 1. Turn ignition to where you have power to your car. 2. Turn Off Radio 3. Presss and hold presets 1 and 2, while pressing turn on radio. 4. your stereo serial number should appear in the format of U#### L####.
Good luck.

I searched an hour ago and found that its:
1. on the stereo.
2. possibly on the fuse box cover, in the fuse box under the hood on passenger side.
3. Undernearth the drink holder.
