msd ignition and coil

i came across a good deal on a fairly new msd 6al ignition and blaster ss coil so im thinking of picking them up. anyone use an aftermarket igntion or coil? im thinking maybe i just use an msd coil over the oem one and use the oem ignition. any tried just using an aftermarket coil? it would be like a $50 mod to do that and eveything would be brand new. not many ppl have too much info about msd igntions on hondas and if they do most of them are using the oem coil so are really not benefiting much at all. and most of those using both coils and ignitions seem to skip on opening the gap on the plugs which also severly decreases the benefits. then u got those ppl installing the igntion in hot places wondering why they are on their 3rd one. i just want some real facts. msd seem to be the most reputable with igniton parts/

Check with Comptech Mike. They list ignition on the list of mods on many of their cars. They show quite a good gain on the J30. I bought this up before, but I got the usual "stfu, you suck, I like my OBX exhaust idea, blah blah". I had planned to change the ignition on my car, but we'll see how long I end up keeping it.

the 2.2 has a distributor cap for the aftermarket coil. i have a 2.3 so when i installed mine i had to make a custom cap which was a pain.

mine is mounted here:

niedejb has an igniton install on his site http://home.insightbb.com/~niedejb/

msd now has a cap for the 2.3cl go check their site.

i guess i will call msd. i was thinking of just pickin up a coil and cap from them. it would be a cheap mod and result in better mpg most likely. now all i need to know if a can use the msd coil with the oem ignition. i really want to get a masd ignition and coil.

i know if its installed right and u gap the plugs correctly their is decent mpg gain, way better throttle respionse, better start up and idle, and should be a small gain in power throughout rpm range.

thansk for the input guys

damn figures msd makes a cap two months after i need it. i'm going to order one and swap it out with my modified stock one. edit: its so recent i cant find anyone with it listed yet. i can probably get it through summit though.

you should be able to run just a coil. the box controls the signal and changes the degrees of rotation of the spark and what not. i'm not sure running just a coil will do too much. when i installed my ignition i got a tiny bit better fuel economy and the engine felt smoother up around redline.
