Help: Wiring the H22 distributor to the F22 harness

has anyone had problems with the distributor, the f22 harness doesn't match up to the h22 distributor. the f22 has a hitachi distributor while the h22 has a TEC distributor. anyway, does anyone knows how to wire the h22 distributor up to the f22 harness.

(i'm reuseing the f22 harness)

Eric call me up i mite be able to help.

baka_t 03-03-2004 10:09 PM

I know that if the distributor isn't obdII it wont work with the obdII f22 harness. If that is the case, your gonna have to get a new distributor.

lnsyone 03-03-2004 10:49 PM

need to know how to wire the h22 distributor up to the f22 harness. i need detailed instructions.

LCARUCA 97 03-03-2004 10:56 PM

ok here is what you do....

1. lenghten the wires for the crank angle sensor and the cylinder pos sensor so theyt reach to the dizzy area. there should be a red, blue, green, and white wire there.
2. take those h22 harness plugs and hack em off, you will need them. (MAKE SURE TO LEAVE AS MUCH SLACK AS POSSIBLE 6' or more)
3. Hack the plugs off your f22 harness
4. you now have bare wires where the harness meets the dizzy. use a wiring diagram from a chiltons of helms to properly wire the h22 plugs onto the harness. I would HIGHLY reccommend soldering these connections as the h22 is a hot-running engine. and would surely melt any kind of crimpcaps or (bleh) tape.
5. plug the new harness plugs into the dizzy.
6. start engine , drive around and whoop up on all the little ricer punks in your area. :D

thank you so much! very much appreciated.

baka_t 03-03-2004 11:13 PM

Something else will go wrong ....trust me :D

Never fails.

I freaked out too when i saw what i had to do to get the distributor goin, but it turned out to be super easy. I hand wired my OBDI plugs with a soldering iron. It was really tedious and for about a month i couldnt get it to start because of a wrong wiring diagram i got from the dealership. I had it wired

1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6
14|15|16|17|18|19
when its actually
1 | 3 | 5 | 7 | 9 | 11
2 | 4 | 6 | 8 |10| 12

so 98% of the wires were wrong. Once i figured that out the car fired right up. Best sound in the world when you do all the work yourself.

baka_t 03-03-2004 11:35 PM

Wow that pretty fucked up wrong diagram.

LCARUCA 97 03-03-2004 11:41 PM

yeah ill say. Fuckin jackasses. You would like to think a dealership would have their game together.

baka_t 03-03-2004 11:50 PM

Some dont man i had some problems when i bought my car from the dealer. Like a leaking transmisson seal after it passed their used car inspection and was assured that the car was in great condition. Luckything i caught it before it was too late.

AcUrALiTy 03-04-2004 01:32 AM

thats incorrect, my h22 was obdI and I got it to work and also have no CEL. If you didn't get it figured out yet PM me your number and I'll call you after 9 pm (cell is free) and I'll spare 20 minutes and go over the wiring with you wire for wire.

Insyone I had the same problem, we rewired the crank sensor and everything to the dizzy and she still wouldn't fire, turned it out it was the ECU. We had the p13 ECU in that was trying to read my car as an auto when the ecu is for a manual. I switched back to my stock ecu and the car fired right up. Now we just have to figure out what pins to take out of the p13 so it will not think the car is an auto.

so is yours the type s or euro r motor?, or just a plain h22

If your asking me, mine is a JDM H22A, I do not have the type R or Euro, just the japanese version of the H22A which I believe only puts out 10 more horses than the US version.

Well, we tried wire it that way and it ended up not working. Anyway, we wanted to change all the igniton parts so we were gonna change the distributor anyway since it looked pretty bad. Actually, when i think about it it mite of been a bad distributor thats why it didn't work.

lnsyone 03-04-2004 03:09 PM

this whole thread has valueable information for those whom want to swap in a prelude motor. i think it should be saved.
