Foglights smoking!!!

Well i got my self some 3A Racing fogs the "HID" ones.

Well i installed them just like the instructions said, except for:
Instead of hooking one of the (+) wires to a headlight i hooked it up to the battery with the other (+) wire.

So i have 2 (+) going to a switch, then one of the (+) is attached to a relay and also a fuse, then the fogs.

When the car is running and the fogs are on they smoke, when it is off and fogs are on they don't. What the hell is going on.

please help

Unfortunately I can't help you here. I'm not really good with electrical stuff. You may want to try to post this in the "Car Talk" forum. You'll get a lot more hits there and probably some really good responses....

By having the engine off and having the lights on, you mean that you still have the keys there right?

You might be frying your lights by sending too much power to them. I really don't see how this is happening but it just might be. If you can, why not try hooking it up to a headlight instead and see if that works...sorry...

A few suggestions... You should check to make sure that the wires you are suppose to be hooking them into (which you are not) are also 12Vdc. Like tw1112 said, you might be sending them too much voltage. Also, place the fuses as close to the battery as possible in the chain, and it should be protecting both lights, not just one. Try to follow the directions as closely as possible, becuase they are written by the people who designed the product. I know sometimes this is not possible, but believe it or not, these people should know more then you or me.

I actully took the fuse off of the (+) wire, and put it in a fuse box. From there i just connected that same (+) wire to it. So now my fogs will turn off when the ignition is off, actully when my door opens.

This is the same thing, except the fust is in the beging. But there are 2 (+) wires, one is the one that should have been on the headlight, i also put it through the fuse, is this why.

If you want, send me the wiring schematic that came with the fog lights, and I will take a look (my email is in my user-bio). Using the fuse box is a good idea, as long as the fuse is the same size as the original one.

I think i got it. I am pretty positive that it is just steam that is seen during cold weather. Like when you breath. I also saw it coming off of my dads lexus, only on his headlights. But, if i see other wise i will send it to you.

thanks a lot for the offer though
