Fix it, Fix it, Fix it!

I take hard turns usually and recently my car has started STAYING in the position I'm turning. I know if I turn the other way that I'll overcorrect myself, so I don't want to do that. It happened yesterday, but I thought that was just because it was wet outside, but it did it again today. It feels like the wheel suddenly tightens up and locks. WTF?!

Sounds liek your power steering doesn't have enough pressure for you to easily turn the wheel back and forth. If not, get it checked cuz your rack and pinion might be jacked up

My dad's '92 300ZX did the exact same thing, I was driving down the mountians where I live with a friend and near the bottom is pretty slow since its quite steep and a tiny one lane road. Every once in a while while going around a tight 180* turn the wheel would lock (and feel like it had no power steering) and I would have to slam on the brakes and yank it back to keep from going off the road.

Thats what I was thinking. More towards the rack and pinion. If she lost power steering she would still be able to turn while the car is in motion.

its the type of steering system that it is our cls. basically, its a bar with teeth that is moved left and right with a pinion gear attached to the steering shaft. so its pretty much your steering box. no more hard cornering

yeah it's a snake that ate a "ewe" (sheep).

I don't understand what you mean by "my car has started STAYING in the position I'm turning."

does this mean that you can't turn the steering wheel back to center, or does it mean your tires break loose and you "drift" the corner?

Ars, the rack and pinion makes up your steering column, sounds like something is royally jacked there. I'd take it to a mechanic asap, not being able to turn quick is a big safety hazard.

Only when your stopped. When your going, you wont have any problems turning the wheels because the car is in motion...

<~~~ Learned how to drive stick on an RX-7 with no power steering... Damnit I miss that car. I will get one.. I will I will I will.

no. I did a delete then looped it all back filling the rack with oil. The steering response is insane and the car handles much much better. Its not even that hard to steer at low speeds or at a stop............my car doesnt weigh anything

if you're tires are losing traction when they didnt' before, then maybe they are just gettign low on tread. are you letting off of hte gas at all? that'll cause oversteer if you take the corner with high throttle, then let off mid turn.
