Engine light...manifold question
Hi Guys,
THE CAR IS A 98 2.3CL
Here is my problem. Some time back I got the engine light on. I hooked up the OBD scanner and the codes come out as P0170 Trim malfunction bank1 and P0171 System too lean bank1. I had posted in another thread and got some very good advice. I figured that the O2 sensor might be tosted so have decided to buy a new O2 sensor.
I did a fresh oil change and threw in some SEA FOAM in the intake tube that connects the air filter to the Carb/injector aseembly. Well the car smoked for some time and then came back to a normal idle. I noticed that there was some amount of white smoke rising in the engine compartment(I mean when you raise the hood and look at the engine). I see some white smoke very little but it is there.
Now I am thinking that the manifold might be leaking...IS THAT SO??? If it is do I have to change the manifold or just the gasket?? If I have to change the manifold how do I remove the bolts they appear to be rusted. I have already broken on on the sheild and am scared to touch any other bolts. When I reach the bolts that connect the Manifold to the engine will they be rusted as well and difficult to loosen or there are chances of them breaking as well?? I would like to know if some one out there had faced similar problem and what is a safe way to loosen these bolts?
ALSO IS THIS LEAK CAUSING THE CHCEK ENGINE LIGHT ON AND THE CODES P0170 AND P0171? I AM JUST WOUNDERING THAT THE MANIFOLD GASKET MIGHT BE WORN AND NOT THE O2 SENSOR AND THAT IS WHY THE COMPUTER IS THROWING THESE CODES? AM I CORRECT HERE ? CAN SOME ONE ADVICE PLEASE BEFORE I GO SPENDING MONEY FOR STUFF THAT IS NOT REQUIRED?
THE ONLY MOD THAT I HAVE IS THE OBX MUFFELERS THAT'S IT. IS THIS MOD EFFECTING THE O2 SENSOR READING? I GUESS NOT AS THE MUFFELER IS WAY AT THE END OF ThE ENTIRE EXHAUST SYSTEM.
PLEASE ADVISE.
THANKX

it might just be the sea foam smoking, its supposed to do that.
