The CL dirt track race car FIRE!!! It's DEAD!!! (pic links)
For those of you who missed the thread with the story behind the car, click HERE.
I made it about 30 of the 50 laps last Saturday night before it blew the right CV axle. I was doing well, at WOT coming out of turn 2, when the axle snapped. I coasted to the inside rail to get out of the way of the other 30-35 race cars on the 1/3 mile banked dirt oval. I was somewhat surprised to see the red caution lights come on, and all the cars stopped. Next thing I know, track officials and volunteer firefighters are running towards me, extinguishers in hand, and smoke starts pouring out from the right wheel well!
It turns out that when the CV axle popped, it threw the grease from the boot on the glowing red brake caliper, which ignited it, and made flames pour out of the wheel well. They put it out right away, and fortunately the engine, wiring harness, and battery are fine. The wheel well is scorched, but the tire survived. The engine still runs perfectly!
Here's a couple photo galleries of the races and various carnage from the speedway's website:

Now, I need to either rebuild the engine in my '86 Starion, or find another Prelude or Acura, this time with a 5 speed.
The CL parts are for sale. The 2.2 Vtec motor and auto transmission are both excellent and have only 91k miles! You can start it up and hear it run. The whole car (minus cage and window net, of course) can go for $700. That's less than a junkyard would charge for the engine alone, and you get a complete wiring harness, Vtec computer, all accessories, auto transmission, good driver's side axle, brake components, spare wheels/tires, radiator, etc. Put a right CV axle in it, and you can race it if you want to. Otherwise, I'll part it out on ebay.
I bought a 1993 Lincoln Mark VIII yesterday REALLY cheap. I think I'm going to start gutting it for the next race, which is 150 laps!

Obviously you didn't read the other thread. It was wrecked pretty hard when I bought it, and decidedly not worth fixing. I just pulled the suspension out far enough to race it on dirt.

Wheels have curb rash, and two of them are off of a newer, V6 CL, so they are slightly different. Tires are all decent. I'd sell the set for $120, but not until the motor and tranny are sold, so that I don't have to worry about moving this thing without wheels.
Definately NOT worth shipping to Kansas...
