can upper ball joint be replaced seperately?
 

i have heard two points of view about this ,

one being that on the 1st gen CL the upper ball joint can not be replaced without the control arm,

then some are telling me that the upper ball joint can be pressed out and replaced like the lower ball joint

Please clarify this from EXPERIENCE

I have ingalls upper balljoints thate were pressed in without replacing the control arm, please search before starting new threads

yes. remove whole arm. use a heady hammer to remove and replace.

word, i removed my whole arm and took down to local auto shop and had them press out the old ones and install the ingalls ball joints(cost me like $20), then i just installed the arm with new bj's.

Mines a 2.2 my mechanic said that you had to cut them out and re weld them? If you wanted to just replace the bushing. Shed some light pls.

So BlkAck u got the ingall control arm bushing or camber kit? Just the bushing? Well I heard that control arm bushing can;t be removed and have to have the whole arm replaced? Please shed some light on this.

Im redoing my whole suspension and i am replacing everything at one go so i need to have all correct parts. Especially bushings.

Now i heard that the Energy Bushing kit comes with a control arm bushing? Im i wrong?

Not the bushing the whole ball joint

now is there a special way to press them out or is it the same as the lower ball joint :

remove boot clip> then boot> then remove snap retainer> then press joint out

they look a bit diffrent but i havent payed close attention to them so i wouldnt know

if you want the bushing replaced i'd removed the part, cause they have to burn out the old rubber one and press in the new. (it's like pushing a lemon thru a grape)
as for cutting and re-welding balljoints in, i've never heard or seen that done and wouldn't try it even if it was recommended.
i recommend removing any piece you have to have something pressed it makes it soo much easier to do.

funny, I had my old balljoints popped out and my new ones pressed in no problem :rolleyes:

ok so why would acura say that im going to pick up my ball joints i wanna know if its doable with a regular joint press :annoyed: and if i not i wont get them

Cuz that's one of the reasons they call it a "stealership". That's why I look at DIYs, ask questions, and do everything myself. Because I know that there are many people on here like me that arn't out to get money and just want to help people out. I'm not mechanically inclined either, I just follow directions.

i was looking at the pics and it seems the upper ball joint just pops in .....with a press ,unless u remove the control arm and hammer it

Alright since the word on the street is that the upper ball joints can be pressed out of the UCA despite what acura says I'm going to do that. My question is are the lower ball joints and upper ball joints the same thing. They certainly looks similar but autozone doesn't sell "upper ball joints" if I get one of their "lower ball joints" will it press in? Or should I ebay these? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=33580 I'd just like to lessen my downtime and not have to order something I can get instantly.

Inspiration hit me. Ask for an upper ball joint for an accord instead of a CL. They have those at NAPA for $20. :snipe:

I beat one out with a hammer then put in bench vice put in New one has no problems!

I believe if you have an oem uca then you cannot put a new bj in it. Its welded in with the uca. Most ppl have an aftermarket uca and many of those have bjs that can be removed and new ones installed. Technically the dealership is right since they only look at parts they sell which would be a non removable bj in the uca. I personally prefer to buy the whole uca because its alot easier to install than taking the old uca out and getting a new bj installed. I can usually get both ucas on amazon for under 80 shipped.
